College Course Catalogs and Policies Regarding Changes

It was always policy at the schools I have attended that once a course was offered in the catalog certain details could NOT be changed.

Classroom number and instructor COULD be changed but DAY & TIME of class could NOT be changed after the catalog was published unless the day & time were listed as TBA. If for some reason the DAY & TIME had to be changed then the class would be cancelled and re-offered under a new number.

My son applied to and was accepted in a technical program in June that is scheduled to start later this semester. There were several offerings of the program but we chose this later starting class because of the schedule. The class was originally offered on MTTh from 9am-3pm. He would have only had to give up 2 days at his job as he doesn't work on Mondays.

He received a notice a few days ago with some more class details and that the class times/days have changed. It will now be on TWTh. He will have to give up another day of work. OUCH! *There are no guarantees he'll get the hours back when the class is over.

I'm really irked about this and wondering if it's a way to "thin the herd"? It's a very small class and there is already a waiting list and I believe requirements to the program are changing after this semester. We'll bite the bullet and take the pay cut. I just needed to rant as it would have been against policy where I went to school to change the class dates and times after the offering was published in the catalog.
