Re: Collectibles that are not popular now.

Not a collector of anything really, except Swarovski Christmas snowflake ornaments.  I don't have to display those all year long or anything.  My dad gives me one year.  He started giving the Christmas Ball ornaments to my daughters.  They each have a set now.

My poor SIL has two curio cabinets FULL of precious moments figurines.  She wants to get rid of them so bad.  She made the mistake of saying how much she loved them or thought they were cute 20 years ago and my MIL gives her one every chance she gets now.

I'm not one for collections or displays of any type.  Reminds me of a gift shop.  LOL

I have a collection of Lladros that I purchased for the pleasure they give me. Never gave any thought to investment issues then or now.

Also, never regretted buying them.

Department 56 Villages.  My mother got me started collecting them.  They took so long to set up and take down that I would only do it every few years.  When I moved last year, I donated them all...12 huge totes full.  I hope someone is enjoying them.

Re: Collectibles that are not popular now.

Oh gosh. I have started and stopped collecting a lot of things. I get so much of one thing and kind of yell at myself to stop. I think we have about 20 beanie babies - kids wanted to get those. As for me, I collected stuffed Boyd’s Bears, Longenberger baskets, Penzo painted pottery made in Africa that is absolutely gorgeous, quilted throws that I got from QVC, and now I am on to Jim Shore. I can say I like and enjoy what I have and never expected any kind of big return. But I should have just bought a few of these things and not all that I did. The one thing I wish we had never bought was Christmas in the City buildings, like Dept 56. I have not put them out in years and hate storing them in our garage. Hate to part with them as they are kind of cool. Maybe I will take a few out next Christmas. I also have way too much jewellery. I am trying to wear all that I have and am being very selective in what I buy now.

The only thing I ever *collected* was Kennedy half dollars.  My mother did, too.  Some are worth a bit.

Nothing to display, but an obsession just the same.

I have Fenton, Lladro and a lot of Crystal. I don't regret purchasing it. I liked it back than and I still like it.

Re: Collectibles that are not popular now.

I forgot about my small collection of Royal Crown Derby miniature buildings.  I don't know if they were ever popular, but I love them.  There were only a limited number of designs produced, so the collection will never grow any larger.  There were two designs, the China Shop and the Toy Store, that had multiple iterations with different owner names on them, but I never tried to find all of those.  One iteration is enough for me.  I was hoping RCD would produce one last design to commemorate HRH Queen Elizabeth II's death, but they didn't.
