Collectibles that are not popular now.

I was thinking of collectibles that were popular back in the 1990s that you never hear about now.  There was "Boyd's Bears" and "Beanie Babies", "Longaberger Baskets", "Roman Inc. Angel figurines" off the top of my head.  Were you into collecting any of this? Do you still have any?  Do you regret spending money on collectibles that have lost their value now? Or do you feel they have not lost their value?

NO.  Never bought any of the dust collecters. Glad my money went elsewhere.

I bought several pieces of Fenton Glass.  I enjoyed listening to the two older Fenton gentlemen.

The only thing I ever collected was not from qvc.  That was professionally decorated horse figurines from "The Trail of Painted Ponies".

I bought a couple Longaberger baskets to store things in.  One holds rolled-up hand towels in a bathroom, and the other woolen hats and mittens on a shelf in a closet.  I didn't know that they were ever "collectible'.

@mormel20  It's a shame that the collectibles market went downhill. That seems to have happened a few years ago. I love (and purchased) antique dolls. They seem to have held their value better than other collectibles. I don't regret buying them as they're gorgeous and have such lovely history. I remember the doll and teddy bear shows were a big thing back in the late 80's and 90's. I do miss the collectible days.

@Kachina624  I LOVE Painted Ponies. I have a few that were gifts. They're gorgeous!

[ Edited ]

@mormel20,When my kids were young we all loved getting the newest Beanie Baby from McDonalds. We were joined by loads of other families collecting them, and also at Hallmark and many other stores.

I thought they would help finance my children's college. But so did every other parent!

So I was eventually able to have someone sell some for me on ebay. I didn't make much at all.

But one poster here recently said she made a good amount- a thousand or more! She must have had some really rare ones.

I don't like collecting to make money very much now or besides those. We really enjoyed them a lot.

One thing I regret is giving all my original Barbies, Ken, Midge, Skipper and Barbie car to my cousin. But then again, I think to really be worth a lot they had to be in the original box? Still I bet they could still be worth something.

The good thing is I spent hours of happy times playing with them with my friends and one daughter liked them. The other not so much. My daughter saved hers but doesn't know what happened to them between moves. Her daughter never was too interested in them.

I never got them or had them to be collectables though.

I'm sure there are still things that are worth a lot as you can see on that British show.

But my philosphy is you can't save everything! And so no regrets,(except for my Barbies)!

Re: Collectibles that are not popular now.

We were encouraged back then to collect. I had a curio cabinet stuffed with Hummels, Lladros, Beleek, Limoges, Waterford and Tiffany glassware. I even remember Capidomonte 🤣

I only have the China and glassware now as I got tired of looking at most of it. I don't regret having owned it, though, because I enjoyed it at the time.

My kids still serve their guests on fine China but they don't have any of the dust collectors. They prefer experiences to "stuff." Different generations have different "must have's."

I purchased several Fenton glass pieces, including the auto delivery which were 2 animals for each holiday.  Since I had them packed away, I decided to let my husband put them up for sale on Mercari.  I couldn't believe it, but all 10 pieces sold within 3 days and sold for great prices.  That was about a year ago.  I kept 2 pieces--a little cat and a little bird.
