Coconut-based yogurt recommendations?

This is a new idea for me!

It might possibly turn into a "guilty pleasure"! [see previous discussion about this here in "Community Chat"
I am checking out our local grocery store for

DAIRY FREE treats

including yogurt and ice cream

I must avoid chocolate too, so there are very few guilty pleasures that I can enjoy

Do you have any treats such as this?

If so, would you please share what they are?

Re: Coconut-based yogurt recommendations?

My DD can't have any dairy --Silk has a non dairy yogurt that is ok. She isn't especially fond of coconut but will eat it. I do make her pudding from nut milks that are pretty good. And I did make soy yogurt a few times too, that was really good. I have found that oatmilk is a very good alternative when making things like mashed spuds or cream based soups and sauces-- or adding it to cake mixes  and such.  There is more available online now. Her fave ice cream is called Oatley--she adores it--comes in a few favors. Hers is the raspberry swirl.

@wagirl

Thank you very much for this information!

You are such a good mom for making her special treats!

I'm going to try the Oatmilk ice cream based on your recommendation.

I saw it listed on my grocery app...and I appreciate knowing in advance that it tastes good!

@LTT1 The brand is SO DELICIOUS.  They have the most amazing ice cream sandwiches.  You can get vanilla bean or coconut milk.   OMG ... I LOVE the coconut milk.   It's not sold in all the supermarkets in my area, but if you can find this...  give it a try.  They make a lot of different products other than the ice cream sandwiches.

Re: Coconut-based yogurt recommendations?

Hi @LTT1

While a dairy product, can you tolerate sheep's milk? I ran into a friend at the co-op who cannot do dairy, but she had 8 large cartons of sheep's milk Greek yogurt in her cart.

Here is a little info:

Sheep's milk is considered a dairy product because it comes from a lactating mammal. However, it has a different composition than cow's milk, including a different protein structure and proportion of polar lipids. Sheep's milk contains A2 protein, which may be easier to digest than the A1 beta-casein protein found in cow's milk, which can cause stomach pain and other gastrointestinal issues. For this reason, sheep's milk may be a good alternative for people who are sensitive to cow's milk, but it's not suitable for people who are clinically lactose intolerant.

Sheep's milk also has a higher fat and protein content than cow's milk, and it's often used to make famous products like Pecorino Romano and Roquefort cheese. It's also a good source of calcium, zinc, and vitamins.

@LTT1    i'm so Lactose intolerant just looking at dairy gives me stomach pains.   Yoplait OUI brand has coconut milk yogurts - very high sugar though.  i can't do soy milk -  Silk and the SO brands.  ******E "Best Life"  has something like Lactaid added. they have a plain unflavored one. and some with fruit-on the side.
