Re: Cleaning Pleated Lamp Shades

I usually wait until a hot sunny day. Dip them in sudsy water rinse and dry on a rack in the sun.
Lately I've used the new uv light gentle cleaner from QVC that vacuums and sanitizes. It did a beautiful and gentle cleaning on them and any delicate materials.

Thank you ALL for your comments  and suggestions.  My shades are sort of plastic and I have a similar one that's ready for the lampshade graveyard, so tomorrow I will try washing it per instructions.  If that works out, I'll wash the others.  If it fails, time to buy new!!!

I used to use an old paint brush when we had pleated shades.

Are they fabric or the plasticy ones?

If they are the plastic type put them in the shower.

@CelticCrafter I use paint brushes for lots of things!!!

Re: Cleaning Pleated Lamp Shades

I just take my lampshades outside and use canned air at an angle and it does a decent job.  Quick and easy... 😊

Re: Cleaning Pleated Lamp Shades

Try the sink washing put outside hope it works usually does for me if not get a new shade but they are expensive sometimes just getting a new lamp with a shade is cheaper. I do the same thing in the sink with fake plants. Spray in sink if you have a sink sprayer. I don't soak the shade cuz afraid the glue seam will come apart just a quick wash. Good luck.

I've always used Swiffer dusters.  For all my dusting actually - wouldn't use anything else.

Mine aren't the plastic type though  but fabric - the pleats likely aren't as deep.

I too use a vaccuum wand on my Electrolux or even a lint brush for clothes.
