I don't have any personal social media accounts.
I went to a small high school (graduated 250 - if I didn't know someone I knew something about them) and we had our own site where we could post and talk to each other. We could also private message each other. It was only for alumni from our high school, and there was no fee to join.
Without any notice our private website sold to classmates.com. I "joined" but I don't want to pay to get the upgraded account offers.. I'm also reluctant to click on anyone's profile because I get emails saying "John said hello," or "Mary remembered you." I noticed I am getting "remembers" from people I never knew who attended a high school with a similar name.
My best friend is on there too, but she is also part of a Facebook group for our class. She doesn't participate much on Classmates. Most of our class, who were on the private site, do not participate in Classmates. They do participate on Facebook.
I did answer someone's post on Classmates. She was trying to find a mutual friend. She wanted to know where she was and if anyone had seen her.I had, so I answered I had seen her and her husband, they are both doing well, and they live in this city and state. I never got a response from her. That's the only time I posted.
Have any of you had any experience with Classmates? Pros or cons? TIA! ![]()

I have never participated, but am listed with my class and get multiple baiting emails that someone remembers me or do I remember so and so. I'm not interested.

@beach-mom i kindly advise you to drop participation in that site, cancel membership etc. For them to sell your info without notification is not good. You dont really use it and frankly its not useful.
Have zero worries in the future, just rid yourself ofit.

I was listed on there when it first came out. I haven't been communicated with or invited to any reunion, if there have been any, in thirty years.

I think I joined the site several years ago (no money involved just a sign up) and just as you said I am besieged with notices, prompts and teasers in relentless emails.
They are like a bulldog on your ankle.

@beach-mom @781Florist I belong, but it is a waste of money, IMO. It used to be a few bucks. I do not belong to any other social media. I defriended myself from Facebook 20 yrs ago. Lol! However, I do know if you go to *classmates homepage..., then, get into your acct you can tick the box (s) that you don't want. It seems last few months I haven gotten more notices of people dropping bye, or saying "hi", lol. But never from anyone outside my school. I did tick the box to only get My high school info. It depends what you want Classmates for. I don't remember most people. Several of us got together, invited others from classmates . We used the mail service they offer. We do zoom reunions 2X a yr. I might not renew this year, dunno ..lol! I graduated 60 yrs ago...so many former students have dropped off the radar. Seems our class is scattered all over the world now!

Thank you for your comments! I guess I'll just leave it alone. As I said, our private high school website switched to Classmates, or was swallowed by them, but they somehow found out my college too! I ignore that part. I've been to high school reunions; the last one we had wasn't a number, but a "post-COVID" one. It was one of my favorites.
The new "happening" place for my class is the Facebook group. My best friend is active in that, and she tells me what's going on. ![]()

Our class uses a FB account. We had 104 that graduated in my year. There are also a few general alumni FB accounts.

My HS class has a FB group, I loosely follow it. The Classmates group is useless to me, since I am not a paid member. When it comes to groups I stick with a PanAm group for former employees, it's really interesting to see where everyone is now, re-connections have been made. Since it is a worldwide group it's the only way to stay aware of passings and changes. The USAirways group fizzled out - wish it hadn't!
I'm not too involved with my HS class, I did not move into that district until I was 15, the friendships were already made and formed. . . we're more acquaintences than friends.
