Re: Clarks canvas shoe recall

According to the Clark's latest press release:

"Customers can identify if their shoes need to be returned by checking the article number in their shoes. The article number is the first 8 digits of the 12-digit number under the size and fit information and can be found on the fixed label inside the footwear."

@Cakers3  Good question!  Those chemicals are apparently used in the dying process.  Seems that everything is toxic these days.  Shoes, sports bras.........the list grows and grows, on and on.  Found this on the EPA site:

Q4. Why is EPA concerned about benzidine-based dyes?

Exposure to benzidine-based dyes are of concern to consumers, workers and children because benzidine dyes can be converted in the body into a chemical that is known to cause cancer. These dyes also have the potential to separate from textiles, such as clothing, that are in prolonged contact with human skin, increasing exposure risks.

@LdyBugz   The heads of any company should always, always, always check out their suppliers and what is used to manufacture products.

Remember Kathy what's-her-name and the child labor sweatshops  making her clothing line?  She "didn't know" and although she did make good I wonder how many children suffered making her line of clothing.

I find this chemical issue very disturbing and also take into account the disposing of those dyes entering the ground and then ground water.

I haven't bought Clarks in years so I assume they are imported.

Just saw this on the Consumer Protection site......(typo fixed)....

Clarks Americas Recalls Women’s Navy Blue Canvas Shoes Due to Chemical Hazard

Hazard:

Prolonged and direct contact with the shoes’ upper material can expose the wearer to the chemicals benzidine and/or dimethoxybenzidine, which are toxic and can cause adverse health effects.

Remedy:

Consumers should immediately stop wearing the shoes and visit Clarks web site for instructions on how to receive a full refund. Consumers will need to upload a photo of their shoes in order to determine if they are included in this recall. If included in the recall, Clarks will send consumers free shipping materials and a pre-paid shipping label to send back the shoes. Consumers may also return their shoes to the place where purchased.

Units:

About 113,000 (In addition, about 10,000 were sold in Canada)

@Mindy D  Yes, I saw your post about the different shoes.  I didn't purchase the shoes, thank goodness.
