Re: Church food pantry/giveaway

@We rescue cats

We are trying to address the need for fresh foods. Our hospitals all have park like areas and the farmers that come to the state farmers market are donating lots of food that people can come and pick up or have someone to do it. This is a couple of days a week. If I go to the market and buy 5 ears of corn then the farmer will give me an additional 5 ears to pass on etc. I usually hit them up for a watermelon or two to donate while I'm at it. LOL. This effort still needs work but there are many more people participating now.

My daughter organizes public food boxes for a charity in NYC. She's done this since the pandemic. This is not a new concept. Food banks are always busy and always in need of more. 4 years ago we were seeing miles of cars waiting to access food and every day supplies, like toilet paper and bread, cereals and canned soup. Millions had lost jobs, we couldn't travel and kids couldn't go to school. 4 years ago, anyone with a brain worried about getting sick and dying. People passed away alone in hospitals and nursing homes. The Dow dropped to a low point of 21,000. Its 40,000 today.  How quickly we forget.

There will always be people in need regardless of the economic climate.

I'm thankful for the helpers.

First - apples and oranges

Second - Not everyone was worried about getting sick and dying (and it's been proven why it wasn't a concern for most)

LOL. You are so darned smart, it's almost hard to believe the depths of your research and grasp of the facts. Stunning.

Go you!

Gotta love COVID trolling in a thread about people in need.

Just when you think COVID trolling is over here it can pop up when you're least expecting it.

I thought maybe they would go away after the pandemic, but no. Guess we need some stronger plague, maybe with facial boils, to get them to comprehend.

Bet your life if they were facing Ebola, they'd line up begging.

Just dumb.

The local food bank often hands out a list of the most useful items at the door of my market.  I like getting suggestions.

My grocery has grocery bags already packed with food sitting at the checkout lanes.  Price tags of $5 or $10 are attached.  So all you have to do is add one to your cart as you move up to the cashier. The cashier puts the bag in a large bin where everything is taken to the Food Bank.  I love that it makes it so easy for me to do a good deed.

One thread closed, maybe they will consider this one as well.

What a good idea to make it easier.  Our stores may have a big box that you can add to when leaving the store, but this approach at the cashier makes it even easier.
