Aw, I'm sorry he was put down. Apparently this couple really didn't care about helping him. I doubt he was bought at an auction; you have to have a license/permit to sell exotic animals in Texas, and this racoon certainly was not an exotic animal.

How rotten. If they couldn't afford treatment for it they could have gotten donations I'll bet or just let it go as it was!

I had a friend of mine, a professional naturalist, look at the video. He said he's 100% certain that "chupie" is a raccoon with sarcoptic mange. I have never known him be wrong about identifying an animal, and he's a bit of an expert on mangy raccoons.

Interesting Clover, I am still upset that the couple just had the animal put down. I would have had blood DNA run and maybe depending on expense had the animal treated if possible.
