p.s. Now-a-days, lots of restaurants have been open for the holidays. Entire families are enjoying their holiday lunch/dinners, and then they go back to one of their homes to chat, etc.

Originally my son and his girlfriend were coming too...so that would be 4.
I was okay with cooking for 4. But the ham alone is over $40.00 so I thought it would be better to just go out to dinner, since it would just be 2 of us.
But my question was I wasn't sure what would restaurants would be open Xmas Day.
I would get some kind of prepared food that you and your dd like. I would relax and enjoy her company!! See a movie? Rent a movie? Play board games? Whatever the two of you like.
If you like to cook, cook something fun for just the two of you. It doesn't have to be a fancy dinner.

I see nothing wrong with not wanting to go through all the trouble of cooking, when it is just two people.
After my mother passed in 2000, I tried to the traditional holiday dinners, even though it was just my dad and myself.
We both agreed that it would be easier to just go out to dinner on t-day & x-mas.
And we have.
No more endless pots and pans to clean afterwards.
No leftovers that last for a week or more.
No more spending hours in the kitchen, only to spend 30 minutes eating at the table.
So, I can totally understand why, when it is just the o/p and her daughter, that she would not want to go through all the work, of preparing a big, lavish meal, when it would just be so much easier to go out to a restaurant.

Find out. Call those you're familiar with, look on Yelp for recommended restaurants.
You'd better get busy now if you want to find one.

Ask your son to drop over after his dinner with his girlfriend. Go ahead and make the dinner for you and your daughter, you two will still have a good Christmas!!

'I have a feeling' that O/P's dear daughter will love being out, enjoying Christmas dinner with other folks, etc. Perhaps walking around town afterwards, etc. 'Something different', in a nice, heartwarming way. Maybe even drive around, viewing the various decorations in nearby neighborhoods and the main part of town. Then, they could return home and chat awhile. IMO, a very rewarding evening.

I went to Longwood three years ago at Christmas when there was a lot of snow on the ground. It was magical. It's on my must-do list for every trip to Pa. I love that place. I took the most gorgeous photos. Here's a photo I took in the greenhouse that night.
