Re: Christmas Shopping Locally

This year I am doing all my shopping in person at brick and mortar stores. I just really want to support my local economy.  It is struggling here, so this is something I can do.

Plus, I really still enjoy the hustle and bustle of good old-fashioned Christmas shopping.  I probably won't go shopping until the first week of December.  I don't want to wait until everything is gone but I want it to feel like Christmas too.  Although I must say, stores here started decorating the day after Halloween, LOL.

Re: Christmas Shopping Locally

We don't really shop & exchange gifts much anymore in my family.  I don't know if it's just a local deal or nationwide, but the last few years we've had a day in early Dec encouraging people to shop & buy from local small businesses.

We always try to support our local businesses all

year.

Saturday 11/28/25

is "Small Business Saturday"!

I think it's a great reminder to shop locally.

Re: Christmas Shopping Locally

The majority of our Christmas shopping is done on the internet and I have our purchases shipped to my work; that way, I don't have to worry about anybody stealing them from our porch at home. It's never happened, but I read about things all the time. The packages are shipped to my work, somebody calls me to let me know something has arrived, I go out, pick it up, and put it in my car. It works. Many of us have started to do that.

I'll be getting The List from our DIL within the next few days and will start shopping. We'll get as much as we can online, but will hit the malls, too.

We don't do much at the local stores, simply because they're not all that great.

I first heard of Small Business Saturday - the day after Black Friday - was when I got a notice from American Express that if I registered my card for that promo and shopped at a small business that Saturday, I'd get a $25 credit on my card.  Later it became only a $10 credit. Than I canceled that card so I don't know what the offer is any more.   I also don't know whether Am Ex started Small Business Saturday or not, but that was the first I'd learned about it.

Re: Christmas Shopping Locally

None of my Christmas shopping is coming from QVC. I actually enjoy going to the malls and picking things out, looking them over or trying them on. No shipping charges or paying to return things and there are sales and great deals out there. Oh, and I haven't experienced the "nightmare" of mall shopping that the QVC hosts want everyone to believe it is.
