Re: Christmas Classics on TCM

On Sunday I saw Beware, My Lovely with Ida Lupino and Robert Ryan.  I never knew there were noir Christmas movies!

There are some chilling moments - I don't want to spoil it.  It moves fast and I recommend it for a twist on Christmas movies.

I love Shop Around The Corner with Jimmy Stewart.  No Christmas would be the same without watching.  It was the original to You've Got Mail.

Another fun Christmas movie is " The Ref " with Dennis Leary, Christine Baranski, Glynis John's and a really good supporting cast . You can watch it on Amazon for a few dollars.

Re: Christmas Classics on TCM

[ Edited ]

781Florist, I saw Christmas in Connecticut yesterday around late afternoon/early evening, and it's way better uncut, which is how TCM serves them up.

Very funny movie, with a lot of sadness around the edges provided by the late- WW II setting.  (The hero was starved in a lifeboat for a month; the "babies" assigned to Barbara Stanwick's character" (she is pretending each is hers, but they are the children of around-the-clock factory workers for the war.)

The delightful party scene is a background for an appeal for war bonds.

And it is both silly and sharply funny:

"Wouldn't you cry if you swallowed a watch?"

"Is nobody looks good in a mink, except the mink."  (Both quips from Uncle Felix.)
