Chicago restaurant recs?

I am looking for a "nice" restaurant in the Chicago area. My DS lives in the suburbs and wants to take us out for dinner to thank us for helping him with something. We live in northern IL, but definitely aren't too familiar with Chicago.

We have been to "Wildfire" in Schaumburg, which was very good. He is willing to spend some $$, but I don't want to take advantage of him!

Do you have any suggestions? DS doesn't like seafood (but we do), so it would have to at least offer steak, or a steak place would be good, or Italian, or really good Mexican, or ??
