Started seeing the first commercials of the season today for the Chia Pets.  Has anyone ever bought one?  I looked several years ago and they seemed very expensive for the novelty of having or giving one.

Never had one of those or the fish on the wall plaque that sang.  Nor a pet rock.  Nor oh wait, did have a mood ring. LOL

Is this the answer to the "gift for the person who has everything" ?

Wow, that’s a blast from the past...

Yes, I have bought and received Chia Pets (several years ago). I used to enjoy the commercials. Sadly, never had any success with them.  Don’t know why.  Followed instructions exactly.  Several friends and relatives tried them as well but again with no success.  Finally quit trying.

I got one as a gag gift at work one year. I kept it in the break room, and the foolish thing grew.

I have a brother-in-law who likes to do a humorous or comical thing every now and then.  (He thinks our family lacks enough  sense of humor when it comes to gifts--we're just too darn practical)).

I received a Chia Pet from him.  Put it on the kitchen window sill, followed all instructions for its care.  Nothing happened for a long time. Was about to throw it away, when suddenly it started sprouting.

I got a good laugh out of it, but it did take a while for the greenery  to materialize.

If you get a Chia Pet, give it time..............LOTS of time plus patience.

That is indeed a blast from the past.  My mom liked them.  Every Christmas, one of us would buy her one.

My son bought one for his Dad one Christmas. It grew in places and didn't grow in other places.

The Chia Pet ended up going to the same place "The Clapper" went.

Thanks, y’all, for updates but think I will keep passing.

A couple years ago my granddaughter hot-glued some plastic greenery on a chia pig and I’m happy!

Cheers Chias

I bought them 13 yrs ago for my 6 & 4 yr old granddaughters & they had lots of fun & excitement watching them grow...those silly looking things got them interested in gardening, butterflies & birds.

My fave is the singing fish, esp.when it lifts up it's head from the plaque and starts singing at you.

Always makes me enjoy a real belly laugh.
