Re: Cherries for Toni

@Enufstuff

Hello Donna!

First of all, please don't admire me for cleaning out this house!  It is slowly getting better, but so packed to the gills everywhere - the attic was a nightmare, cellar - way over the top.  My DH is stubborn and hangs onto stuff like it is museum quality.  An outfitted shop, with all kinds of tools, in the basement.  All over the place.  I think it would be nice for him to donate, maybe to a vocational school, etc.  Oh, no.

File cabinets, filled with stuff he worked on, when he worked.

He has been retired for 13 years now.

I used to love riding a bike all my life.  But I gave away an almost new bike years back, too dangerous at my age. I gave away 90% of my painting supplies, as I have no more interest.

I would like to do wool appliqué some time, as I have many books and patterns, and lots of wool.  But I am all or nothing, only can concentrate on one thing at a time. One of my many faults.

I love to hear about your cooking and entertaining.  You also have a gift for that. Very elegant entertaining.  Wow, I admire.

I was never that hot about cooking - only eating!  We both have to watch for low fat, low salt, low everything.  So it all is quite plain.  I had a very large family in the area - all gone to heaven or moved far away.  My friends are either in heaven or moved far away.  My friend, you would love her, is coming up north from Florida for a visit with me and her mother-in-law in October.  Pals for over 50 years.  She was widowed quite a few years ago.

I have a theory about old men.  Most identify with their jobs.

When they retire, their world is upside down.  Mine loves old cars.  He has one.  Joined a car club, full of other men.  He is pals with a little bunch who go out once a week for breakfast.

Called ROMEOs.  Retired Old Men Eating Out.  Nothing fancy.

But they are friends.  Then there are car shows, meetings re car club, etc.  Thank heavens.  DH used to play tennis when he was young, never golfed.  It is his salvation and mine.  He loves being outside, walks, rides his bike.

He has never been a chatty person.  I rely on phone calls with friends, daughter.  My daughter has a very demanding job, and even with a house cleaner, does not have too much spare time.  She is planning to take me to a British tea this fall.  Once in a while, we go to craft shows.  Good thing I am a homebody type of person!

But sooner rather than later, one of us will pass on.  DH does not like to talk about it.  Neither one of us would stay in this house alone.  DD would like us to move closer to her in the state when we want to.  And, of course, the two of us could move - but I don't picture that.  We are very attached to our home.  But I do not want to leave a mess for our children.

In our area, I am sure like yours, estate sales are common.

But not junk sales!

Oh, I would push very hard for your DH to have a man cave, or as mine puts it, his "study."  Huge TV, his desk, files, Tons of books, his bookcase of old medal little cars, and tons of whatever.  He does handle our investments, which takes much time, but he likes it.  He does watch sports, which I have no interest in, up in his "study".😀

I also have tons upstairs in my "craft and meditation" room.  I may be more spiritual than some, but at 80 I am in "God's waiting room."  I feel like I still have much to live for - and our two grandchildren I love so much are still young.  I know I have many faults myself.  My collections are cray-cray, as some say.  Like you, enough jewelry for a village, and enough clothing for a small town.  My sense of humor, pardon me, but I am known for it.  And my DH does indulge me very much.

So now packing for vacation.  I never pack light.  And with this crazy weather - who knows!  Yesterday a town in CT had quite a bit of hail!  Should I pack a parka???

You are such a sweetheart, Donna.  Please take care. I admire you so much, as there is so much to admire!  Your doll clothes belong in a museum, really!

All my best wishes,

Your friend Pam

Love to you!
