Where I live, Aldi always has fresh dairy. A lot of people shop there so they have to keep restocking. I don't know about Walmart. I hardly shop there because it's more out of the way compared to several closer grocery stores to my house.

I know a regular ALDI shopper who especially loves their produce and its prices.

I'm in Southern MD and wish we had a Wegmans near by.

However, I'm under 30 minutes or less from 4 Walmarts and 5 minutes from a Food Lion and Weis.  An Aldi's just opened, but my first trip will likely be my last.

Prices were not any better than the stores where I already shop.

We have never found the quality of the produce or dairy from Aldi to be poor quality, never.

Thanks - very interesting.  We use Aldi and Walmart, primarily.  Then, occasionally Giant Eagle or Shop 'n Save.  We don't have any other major grocery stores near us.

Our small community has needed a smaller grocery store for years. Aldis is putting up one near a giant B&M that sells lots of stuff including groceries. Unless I want to drop something off at UPS I do prefer a smaller store. Hope I like Aldis. There is an Aldis about 35 minutes away, but hate the drive.

We only have Price Chopper here in town..It's a chain but I rarely see any prices chopped!

Seniors like us are stuck ..Walmart, Aldi's BJ's are over 25 miles away..Can't get anything delivered here...DH can't drive over the mountain roads anymore.

I shop 99 percent of the time at Giant. It is my favorite grocery store and they

have great offers every week. You will not find these deals anywhere else in

my area here in PA.

Just this week they have $10 off $20 in the frozen department and $5 off $15 in

the dairy, I have enough points for a free turkey and several other items. It is not

difficult to earn the points for free items.

We have Aldi too but don't really care for it. No name brands at very high prices

and I can always do better at Giant.

Occasionally shop at Weis but use digital coupons there because not too much

in good deals there.

Walmart I try to stay away from, not my kind of store. I don't go often.

Don't have other stores around except for what I listed.

We live rural, so delivery isn't really available...and only 2 grocery stores within 12 miles--Walmart & Food Lion. They are directly across the highway from each other.

Food Lion is always our first choice...our particular store is fairly nice. Good produce selection, good meats. We also get savings with our VIP card there. Sometimes non-perishables are out of stock for awhile, but we always buy a few when we can, so we have some in the pantry. If they don't have something we really need, Walmart usually does, though it often costs a bit more there.

We buy bread, fresh veggies and fruit  for the birds and critters and I loved the Aisle of Shame at Aldis! But the food quality is going down while the customers are going down in 'quality'. They pull boxes out from the undercounter storage areas and leave them in the aisles, rifle thru all the products and leave a mess. . . I left a cart sitting in the aisle and walked out last week it was so disgusting.

And when talking to a gent that delivers to W-Mart he told us that one of the stores now pays for 4 local buses to take customers to and from the local projects to the super-store in town. And the theft ratio is steadily increasing. . .I've noticed that when I went thru the store 2 weeks ago, half eaten food is sitting on the shelves or hidden in the other departments. . . it is so sad, one little gal told her mom she wanted a pear, mom told her to eat it and then take the stem in the bathroom.

"On the other hand, there are several grocery chains where families would spend more each year if they chose to shop there. At the top of the list is Whole Foods, where shoppers pay nearly $5,000 more based on average prices. Acme came in second at $2,028, followed by McCaffrey's Food Markets at $1,872."

Where you can save with Acme is by shopping their ads and For U deals. Their "normal" shelf prices are very high, but they have frequent sales with discounts of up to 50% or more. I typically save 35%-45% off their "shelf" prices by shopping their sales. Stock up when something's on sale and then avoid it until it goes on sale again.

One example would be Ruffles Potato Chips. Typical shelf price is $5.99. Once a month or so, they'll have them for $1.99. That's 66% off the normal price. Don't buy them at $5.99, but stock up at $1.99. It's pretty much buy one, get two free on sale. And they have pretty much everything on sale at some point in a month.
