I think the reason for the change is for a couple of reasons.

One, people want their orders two seconds after completing the transaction.

Secondly, people have posted on here, that they'll "buy" it by check, then wait to see if reviews come in, and if the reviews are not all glowing five-star, then they cancel.

I think QVC got sick and tired of that, so in order to cut down on the number of cancellations, they start the process much sooner.

I say, good for QVC!

If one is unsure that they want it, then let someone else who is sure buy it.

Buying and then cancelling messes up the inventory count, even if it is all automated.

@Plaid Pants2, I don't think this will stop people from placing things on check hold status. I think a lot of people who do that just don't bother to send in the check.   In the past QVC has sent out letters to people who do that and they have taken away their pay by check privilege.

What is check hold?  Do you just mean that people pay by check and the order is not processed until the check is received?

I agree, the order quickly locks up ,"in process of shipping"....lol.. BUT  it does not ship for many, many  days later

Yep! This is true!

Every year as we approach the fourth quarter, I notice QVC ships/locks you out of  cancellation faster than the rest of the year. But it has been happening this year much earlier.

I have always liked the idea that because  they are rather slow to ship, I have had some days to change my mind. It seems to be hit or miss as to when this is happening, but I believe they are addressing things as shipped, and locking out the cancellation feature, simply to keep the orders. They aren't really shipping them out as they sit for several days sometimes. I think it is just to combat so many cancellations.

If they are going to say it is shipped, they need to really get it out much faster than it usually happens, or leave it in processing.

Their slow ship time is really a deterrent for many to shop here.

No it’s not unreasonable at all. QVC allowed us to cancel orders the next day all the time.  I appreciated that.  Now that I see the policy has changed I’ll be sure to cancel an order the same day should I change my mind.  Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Just a heads up, but I've had them not allow a cancel within just a couple of hours of placing the order (on the same calendar day).

If they are going to make some policy or procedure about changing the time to cancel, they need to publish it front and center so long time customers who are used to something else, know what the score is.

Posters complain bitterly that orders shouldn't remain in process and then complain just as indignantly when they move through the system too fast.

I think the complaining is about the inconsistency of the whole thing. One or the other, on could come to terms with and know what to do, but the back and forth, sometimes one way sometimes another really is frustrating.

I don't see a problem with check hold from the stand point of a customer who isn't using it. It really doesn't hold the item at all. No one who is ordering and paying with credit is being inconvenienced at all.

If someone comes through with a paid credit sale, that item being paid for (held) for the check customer is sold right out from under them. I've had it happen, and so has my mom. It is really just a convenience for those that want to pay up front without credit or debit, but doesn't guarantee that the item will be there by the time your check does.

I would think the only one to benefit from doing away with check method of payment would be QVC as it would eliminate a lot of orders falling out of the system (or clogging the system) when people just didn't either convert them to credit or send in the check.

@VanSleepy I think 'check hold' is a term people just made up here, I have never seen it listed in the methods of payment.  But yes - I think that is it, once the check is received the order is processed.  Some people pay by this method just to buy themselves more time to decide on an item.  I've read it in the forums.

I don't know, but I suspect some things are shipped directly from manufacturers, so that might make the canceling orders situation more difficult.
