President Gerald R. Ford acquired Liberty, a Golden Retriever, as a puppy in the fall of 1974. She grew up in the White House and even gave birth to her first litter of puppies there.

It is uplifting and positive having animals whether it be in your house or the White House!  The German Shepherds are lovable and I am so glad they are rescues.  Dogs are loyal, therapeutic, loving and provide companionship.  I have had dogs and cats as pets and love all animals.

Thanks for this post, a breath of fresh air!!!!

We had a rescue German Shepherd. She lived to be 15 yrs. I miss her so much.

These new White House dogs are so sweet.

I wonder when we'll have a First Cat.  Soon, I hope!

They are both so beautiful! Love seeing dogs in the White House again. Major looks a lot like my Cody did❤

@spiderw   Agreed!!  I really don't know what I would have done without my animals this past year.

They truly were, and continue to be, a stabilizing force amongst all the horrible things going on.

Cuteness overload for sure!  Beautiful dogs!  I heard that Jill Biden also wanted to get a cat.  That would be pawsome!
