Re: Celine Dion

[ Edited ]

Eulogy from their 15 year old son Rene Charles:

Angélil's adult son Patrick paid tribute to him with a eulogy in French and was followed by Rene Charles.

'Fifteen years is not a long time to get to know your father. He had a busy life but we were getting to know each other through golf, poker, smoked meat and other wonderful food. Bonding more and more as time went by.'

'You left me now with enough good memories of you to share with my younger brothers. As they grow older without you being around, I'll make sure to pass on what I've learned from you. You are a tough act to follow but with our help everything is going to be fine. Dad, I promise you here that we're all go to live up to your standards".

I now/was watching the funeral and an overwhelming sense of sadness came over me.

It is the next days, months that are the hardest.  It never goes away but gets a little 'softer'.

Her son is so handsome. I just saw a clip of them on tv. I've always loved her singing.

Interesting customs in Quebec. I noticed she did not have her rings on. Thought maybe she had put them in with Rene.

They were tied to the pillow that one of his other sons had placed atop the casket. "My heart is with you" symbol.

Then she untied them and put them back on.

Boy, if that was not the real raw Celine, nothing is. That was the human, the wife, the mother. Not a celebrity.

I am in awe at how respectful the Canadiens are. This was broadcast by Rene's own company, he had control over what pictures were released. ALL of it done by him as he knew the end was near, so that Celine would not be burdened.

That in of itself reminds me that there are still 'true loves' in the world. She even recorded the music they chose together. Nothing will make this easy for Celine, but I bet it gives her a tiny bit of closure.

How well behaved her twins were! Not a peep out of them for over 2 hours.

Celine has always been very real, very down to earth in public, and with her fans. I have a whole new respect for her. "My heart will go on" (or whatever the Titanic song is) is running through my head.

She said she allowed the cameras for all those who loved him.

People grieve and handle death differently, i would never fault her for her decision.

Sometimes she gets a little too animated for me, but she seems incredibly genuine about her feelings for her husband.

How touching were her son's words?  I'm sure that makes it even more sad for Celine - to see her boys grow up without their father.

Just watched a few minutes of the end of his funeral.  What well mannered children she has -sitting there quietly for 4 plus hours!  Beautiful memorial.   Must be difficult knowing she married him in that church.

@gabstoomuch - Beautifully said - I was curious about the ring thing also, but saw her put them back on.  She definitely was the wife and mother today.  He was being tube fed last January, so this has been a very long process for her.  She should be very proud of her children and the funeral.  It was beautiful.

As a Catholic, I think our funeral Mass is beautiful.  I found the French-Canadian custom of the rings moving.

Celine Dion and her son were the epitome of dignity. A few times the cameras caught her looking over her shoulder toward her husband.  Such grief was etched on her face.
