Ceiling Fan Fell On My Head - Should I Sue?

Stayed at a VRBO cabin. A ceiling fan on their porch fell on me and cut my head (it was running but gave no warning it was about to fall.) I had to get 5 stitches and a tetanus booster. Property owner wants to cover only my out of pocket medical expenses. I now have a scar on my face and part of my eyebrow is gone. It really hurt foe a couple of weeks and was stressful. I'm on antibiotics now for a lump that developed under the injury. Their insurance company offered me a check for $1000 but I doubt that will cover medical and gives me no pain and suffering compensation. What would you do?

Did you contact the owner, what was their response.

Also contact your lawyer

I don't know what I would do since I'm not in your situation. Probably have them pay all out of pocket medical at least.

I would not be happy with the stitches or shot plus part of your eyebrow gone which probably won't grow back.

Hope your feeling better soon.

One of the ceiling fan blades broke off our fan in the dining room & it flew off & dented the wall. That was a good place for it to hit. If it had flew any place else it would have went through the kitchen or through the glass on the french doors or windows.  It was very scary. Now we check the blades every once in a while.

 @happyplace2 I would check with a lawyer too.You never know what else could come up such as infections and other necessary treatments.Your eyebrow probably won't grow back either.Dont take the 1000 or they will consider it decided.

Thank you, did that. My lawyer said I have a case but I'm unsure. I think the fan was a DIY install that failed but the homeowner and their insurance.company have adamantly denied fault from day one. What if I end up with no medical and a lawyer bill!

Have a consult with a personal injury lawyer. Let him or her hash it out with the owners' property insurance carrier. Not so sure about pain & suffering, but you are prob entitled to more than the $1000.00 offered.

so sorry about your misfortune! i hope you took photos and documented everything. have hospital and doctor’s receipts, and anything else you can use as proof. you need to consult a lawyer immediately. he/she can tell you exactly what needs to be done to get compensated. good luck.

@happyplace2

I don’t know what VRBO stands for, but they should have insurance for these type of unfortunate events.
