@sidsmom wrote:Big Game Hunting, or even small game hunting, has been practiced for centuries. New species? No. Countless people from all walks of like, yesteryear & today, hunt on a regular basis.?..even a former President (Teddy Roosevelt).
Until ALL animals are spared their life, regardless of mounted on a wall or a #3 cheeseburger special at Wendy's, eating & hunting animals will always be part of our World culture. If you eat'em....you're part of the issue.
Let's not mix apples and oranges. Not to mention that this is not true.

You are correct, and the same claims took down a previous Cecil line.
I wish people who went off topic like that started their own line instead.

If you had any interest in wildlife or big cats, you would have heard of Cecil before this.
I think that's just a bit unfair. I never heard of Cecil and I get email and promotional material and contribute to ALL sorts of animal causes (both domestic and wild). We can't have eyes and ears everywhere.
Nevertheless, I'm glad to have heard of him now.
Sometimes it takes a catalyst like Cecil to bring even more people and action to further the cause (even if it wasn't a full-blown cause before).

Point taken. I guess maybe interest was too mild of a word. My interest is maybe getting more toward an obsession.![]()

Geez, I'm afraid to write anything, what with people turning in any post they find offensive... I'm thinking of the connection between serial killers and those who hurt animals.
There is no doubt there are some very twisted psychopaths out there, more than we ever knew before.
Actually, most serial killers started out by killing animals. Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer, just to name a few.

Yes, that was my point, I was afraid to say it. It's a pattern for some psychopaths.

People who hunt animals equals serial killer, OK.
Think with that I am done with this topic.
That's not what I said. I said that according to studies on serial killers, they started out torturing & killing animals.
I said nothing about people who hunt animals are serial killers.

It's not what I said either, but that doesn't matter to some.

@Adelina wrote:Why are there so many "straw man" arguments when people cannot deal with issues head on?
Worth repeating a post previously seen here:
"Description of Straw Man
The Straw Man fallacy is committed when a person simply ignores a person's actual position and substitutes a distorted, exaggerated or misrepresented version of that position.
This sort of "reasoning" has the following pattern:
Person A has position X.
Person B presents position Y (which is a distorted version of X).
Person B attacks position Y.
Therefore X is false/incorrect/flawed.
This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because attacking a distorted version of a position simply does not constitute an attack on the position itself. One might as well expect an attack on a poor drawing of a person to hurt the person.
Examples of Straw Man
1.-
Prof. Jones: "The university just cut our yearly budget by $10,000."
Prof. Smith: "What are we going to do?"
Prof. Brown: "I think we should eliminate one of the teaching assistant positions. That would take care of it."
Prof. Jones: "We could reduce our scheduled raises instead."
Prof. Brown: " I can't understand why you want to bleed us dry like that, Jones."
2.-
"Senator Jones says that we should not fund the attack submarine program. I disagree entirely. I can't understand why he wants to leave us defenseless like that."

I don't know why there are so many straw man arguments, but every time we talk about Cecil we have to deal with the ridiculous claim that anyone who eats a hamburger is just as bad, and that man was only designed to chew bamboo.

Why in this day and age, is this allowed to take place, hunting these animals?

I'm going to have lunch now. I hoping that the Vegenaise will add enough flavor to my bamboo sandwich.

Bless you Cecil.
May your death light a fire which shines around the world putting an end to Game Hunting for sport, trophies, fashion, and pseudo medicine. May your memory make this a better place for all animals. May your death not have been in vain.
ROAR CECIL !
