@KLm   I had Lasik surgery and cataract surgery on the same eye.  And, same eye a retinal tear.

Cataract surgery was okay with all procedures.

Almost forgot, I had YAG surgery after the cataract surgery clear up my vision.

@Carmie Lasik was still in the final testing stage for approval when I had RK. And at the time, it did not occur to me to think about cataracts.

I wondered if you had Lasik at the same time because you mention having your vision corrected. But you said you had YAG. I am happy it worked so well for you.

Didnt your doctor tell you all this when you had the consultation?  He/she should have.

There is really nothing to it, just do what the doc tells you post surgery and you will be good.  For me seeing clearly again was the next day.

I  was scared when I had mine done, but it was easy peasy.

My understanding is that cataract surgery is all done now with lasers, not to be confused with Lasik. Medicare pays for laser cataract surgeries, I didnt pay a dime for either of my surgeries. Using knives for cataract went out 25 years ago.

I first had LASIK surgery.  I couldn't see too well afterwards, so the doctor suggested maybe my cataract was clouding my vision, so I had cataract surgery.

I still couldn't see well, so I had YAG surgery which is sometimes done after cataract surgery to clear things up. Your natural lens that holds the new plastic one in place gets cloudy.

Then a few years later, I had a retinal tear.  I got that taken care of.  All was done on my right eye.

My left eye has only ever had cataract surgery this past August. No other surgeries on that eye.

I wish I never had LASIK.  It destroyed my eye.  My vision is 20/400 in my right eye.  I have to wear a medical contact lens that costs $850, thankfully covered by Medicare, in my right eye.  Without it I am legally blind.

My left eye is 20/20 and I have never needed or worn reading glasses....that is a miracle.

Question: if you're having cataract surgery, how do you keep your eyeball still?

@MakeUpMaidn When I was a child my grandmother used to tell me tales of her getting huge horrile needles in her eyes.  This was always in the back of my brain and when it was time for my cataract surgery I was so darn scared.  But what a relief - eyes were numbed, felt no needles, was awake but whatever they give you makes you feel so relaxed.  On the ride home I said to my daughter Wow - look at the colors!  Best wishes to you, you will be so happy afterwards.

Your eye is totally numb, they put a boatload of numbing drops in there.

Re: Cataract Surgery Coming- Advice Welcome

My eye surgeon retired. I had an appt this past summer, with my new doc. I had been told previously that I would need cataract surgery this year. Well, after examination, my new doc said to wait on surgery. "You're still okay to drive."

I had been attributing my eye challenges mostly to the cataracts alone, but -- nope. I have bad dry eyes. According to this doc, if you have dry eyes, they can be twice as bad after cataract surgery. I think this doc is more sensitive to the issue, since he has dry eyes, too, and he's young. It's not just an older person thing.

So I'm working on trying to get the condition under better control first. Of course, I'll eventually have to have the surgery, which is a bit worrisome, but I'll trudge on.

@MakeUpMaidn , While there are always risks with any surgeries, with your vision so impaired, you will be delighted with your 'new' eyes. So many of my friends and family have  been overjoyed with their surgeries. You should be, too. Just follow the instructions carefully, while the new you, prepares to emerge :-).
