I have an around 15 year old female applehead Siamese who has lost some weight. Around a pound or so.

She has always been a larger cat, so it's not like she looks thin. But, it concerns me.

We took her to the vet and had all the lab work done. She has hyperthyroidism and is on Felimazole 2.5mg twice a day. Her thyroid lab work was good. Her liver and kidneys are good, except the BUN is one point above normal range. However, the creatinine, the real measure of kidney function is normal.

The vet said sometimes early renal failure can begin ahead of lab work changes. So, we'll recheck.

We have not changed her food, and the only different thing is the thyroid medication. I asked if loss of appetite was a side effect of this drug, and was told usually not.

Doctor put her on Clavamox as her neutrophils were a little high. Said she needed dental cleaning.

Still wondering about the thyroid med as a cause.
