Hey there. Just posted this over in Pet Lovers, but not sure how many read/post over there, so thought I would try here too. Wanted to see if any folks here could share ideas on how to get my cat to stop clawing the sofa.

Maybe this topic has been discussed in the past, I went back a few pages to find something, but gave up and am posting a new discussion.

My cat is about 10 years old. He has always clawed the the sofa and chair, and now both need to be replaced. I found a set that I like, but it is rather expensive. I hate to spend this kind of money, knowing that i may need to replace again in a few years. I would like to find a way to get my little guy to stop clawing the furniture!!

I had a post for him a few years ago, but he never paid any attention to it, and eventually I threw it out. I currently have a little mat that has that scratchy material, but he doesnt scratch it. He just lays on it, hahaha. I actually moved it in front of my fireplace, and he lays there and gets warm. Loves it, but doesnt use it as intended. So frustrating!!

Are there any products available that I can buy that you have had success with? Maybe soemthing I can put on the furniture to deter him from scrathing? Do you think putting double sided tape on the corners of everything will help? Is there something I can do to work on training him better? I appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks.
