@deeva :  I, too, live in AZ.  Exactly where do you live that ICUs are full?  I can't believe that that wouldn't be the focus of local news (it isnt).

Re: Casinos opening

[ Edited ]

My mistake, they say they are nearing capacity. Per 12 News and AZCentral.

2 people that were in a casino near to where I live tested positive for Covid.  So much for their useless temperature check before going in the casino.  The news said everyone now should be tested for Covid if they were in the casino at the time these 2 people were.

I have never believed that taking someone's temperature was an accurate way of determining if someone had the virus or not.

First off, someone could have the virus and not have an elevated temperature, and in fact, feel perfectly fine.

Or, someone could be healthy but they just normally run hot.

So, I think that they should get rid of the whole temperature taking procedure, as it is incredibly unreliable.

I think people understand that casinos aren't opening because it's safe. They're opening so they can make money. If people choose to take that educated risk, fine by me. Hope it's your lucky day.

It would be great if people really thought as you've outlined, but I honestly believe most people think, "They wouldn't open things up if it wasn't safe." They do not realize that in March, when things started shutting down, the virus was far less prevalent than it is today. It doesn't make sense that you'd open up the economy when it's actually more risky health-wise than it was when you shut down, but that's what's happening. Elected officials are not saying, "It's not safe but we're opening up to avoid furthering the financial catastrophe," but AFAIK, that's the deal. That means that people actually aren't taking an "educated risk" because that  hasn't been laid out honestly. They're not educated about the decision-making.

We don't have herd immunity and haven't established that it's even possible with this virus. We don't have a vaccine. We don't have a treatment. We don't have proper protective masks.

People aren't really thinking. They're trusting. I hope and pray they don't get sick.

Who me? You wouldn't catch me anywhere near one of those ashtray Petri dishes. But there are some who think they're immune from the consequences and are really excited over this. I don't want them to get sick or end up in the hospital. But I can't care about it for them more than they do or make them take precautions.

@patbz,  I saw coverage that Banner was concerned as their ICUs are nearing capacity.  I didn't hear a particular city mentioned.

When people allow themselves to be misled there can be tragic consequences. I was against these sorts of venues opening mid first wave. But it wasn't my call.

They don't believe experts or scientists, so they can basically feel good about doing whatever they wish. It's sad and I wish they could keep their morale up some other way than just denying the hard to hear information.

@tansy : Found this today:we don't believe a pause of elective surgery is necessary as our PPE supply is adequate and elective surgery patients do not require ICU care which is where we are seeing the highest increase of COVID-19 patients. Community members should continue coming to hospitals for needed care, which includes medically necessary surgeries and procedures which can be done safely without impact from COVID-19. If at any time we have concerns about our ability to continue with these surgeries or procedures, we will make adjustments and notify the community.
