Re: Casinos opening

[ Edited ]

IMO, casinos can be just as safe as any other business if they take appropriate measures like requiring masks and practice social distancing.  Certainly, casinos are not an essential business but many people rely on their casino jobs for income.

People are still dying and it’s not over but sadly, the return to “new normal” means business as usual for many. We will see. We can’t stay closed forever but we can’t depend on responsible behavior either. Time will tell. For me, I’ll go out for essentials, only. I had to go to NYC for a medical appointment from NJ. Probably transit is cleaner than it ever was but we took Uber, gloves, masked, sanitizer. Cleaned the handles in the car and driver shielded with a mask. I will make my own decisions and all of my doctors are following very strict guidelines in NY & NJ and I’m thankful for that

Arizona is now the posterchild for how not to open safely.  I'm in Phoenix and it's rare to see masks.  The Dept of Health Services sent a letter to the hospitals to tell them to implement their "emergency" plans.  Numbers spiking after Memorial Day and 2 weeks of reopening.

@Jannygaz   I was just coming to post that.

I feel the DC Metro area is right behind.

Kudos to  those who still have disposable income for gambling.

And Kudos to those brave enough to pack in places with people, for things that aren't necessary right now.

And I mean that.

I'm not going to do it, and I don't recommend it to anyone I love to do it either. But I guess somebody (actually a bunch of somebodys) have to get out there and create the social experiment that is going to tell us more about how this virus works and what the results of living a 'normal' life again is going to look like.

I'm on the fence as to whether stuff like this will be a complete disaster, or just a mild glitch. I guess it's time to see.

Re:  New Jersey Casinos.....

Casinos in Atlantic City can reopen onThursday, July 2 and may operate at 25 percent of their capacity.

Several casinos plan to limit initial openings on July 2 to friends, family, and loyal customers to test new protocols.

Health and safety protocols will be posted here shortly. Guidance is likely to include:

  • Mandatory face coverings and masks
  • Health screenings for all visitors and staff
  • Density limits to ensure social distancing
  • Testing protocols for casino workers if they ask for a test or begin to show symptoms

This thread started 3 weeks ago, so I enjoyed looking at the historical record.

Many from the Sunbelt were eager to get to casinos.  I wonder how they feel now.

Covid can really change things fast.

@Mz iMac  - I received a "welcome back" email from the Tropicana in Atlantic City. They want us to come back, with a hotel room and some kind of food. I didn't finish reading the email because I have no intention of going back. They can keep their comps because Mr. Sunny and I won't be there. No way!

A casino here is doing it by reservation so that they can manage the occupancy.

You reserve your day/hours and then when you get there for your reservation you get a temperature check and then they let you in with your face covering.  They have seats blocked off for distancing at tables and slots.

It just wouldn't seem fun for me.

@Mz iMac

My sister went to Harrah's (she is a 4 diamond or whatever it's called).  She was very unhappy and said she's staying away (will probably kill her😉) with what she saw:

No valet service

People with no masks on -- maybe they had on to enter

  (and Harrahs did not provide)

No temp checks to her knowledge

No drink service

Lots of machines "off" for social distancing reasons

and very crowded...she said she won't go back for awhile.  I think they just opened in Chester or where ever the Harrahs is outside Philly.

I told her she lived 3 months without it -- she'll be fine😉!

Then again, if Gov Murphy doesn't care that beaches were mobbed guess he'll turn his cheek for casinos because NJ needs their revenue 😉
