Re: Cash or Charge in Restaurants

As an observation, there are many public places (amusement parks, zoo, ballpark) that still don't accept cash - just card.

Re: Cash or Charge in Restaurants

I wish the places would just raise prices by 1%-2% across the board rather than nickel and dime people. A small increase for everyone dining would be barely noticeable.

Re: Cash or Charge in Restaurants

Yes I have noticed this in "hair salon's".

And in day's past we would ask to put on a 20% tip for the stylist, nail person, whatever.

Now they say no, you have to use an ATM.  I said huh?  I don't have cash.

I then said well I'll have to catch you next time to give the tip.

Yep, a good idea.  Let's going back to writing good old check's.

Unreal - the percentage these cc card's is off the chart's but it is what it is....

@Pink123 I'm guessing it's because the tip is subject to the CC fee also and because of the extra bookkeeping required to report it for taxes?

@Twins Mom   The fee cannot be charged for debit cards and gift cards either.

We pay cash most times but have not seen the fee the rare times we have used a card.

@Cakers3

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm sure someone will!☺️), but if I remember correctly at least part of the reason debit cards were invented to begin with was an opportunity for customers to avoid the transaction fees on credit cards that businesses were charging at the time.

That was the beginning of businesses absorbing the credit card fee themselves.

LOL. @geezerette   I don't know if you're right or wrong, but I got a big laugh out of your post!

@CelticCrafter  Very well could be.  I know it has to be something monetary for all these place's.

I go to two salon's.  One for color every 5 weeks as they carry my brand and the other for bi-weekly blowouts.  The lesser one has an ATM machine on the side, can you believe?   (this happened me too when I lived in Dade County.  I saw one there too which I'm sure many of you had as well)

Now this nice but bigger,  salon to be honest for the blowout's I ask for change and they give it to me for tip's.  This does not happen to other places where I was a patron. No cash whatsoever.

Use the ATM they say for places that have changed. Okay.  I'm a person who is used to adding on to cc card for tips.

it's a new world.

Had a first experience with it.  I reduced the "before-tax" total I use to calculate the tip, by the amount of the charge.  Then substantially reduced the tip to get the attention of the management.  And will not go back to the restaurant.  Forced them to "eat" the charge.

So you punished the server that had nothing to do with the policy or charge?  Wow that is horrible!  The only one that will notice will be the poor server that relies on the tips to get a decent wage.

@spumoni99  I agree. I have a feeling this poster is not a good tipper anyway if she tips at all.🤔

Who goes through all that calculating under the misguided idea that the manager will be paying attention.🙄

Exactly, just an excuse to tip poorly.  I always tip at least 20 to 25%, they work hard. I wouldn't dream of punishing the server for a managment decision.

Re: Cash or Charge in Restaurants

My hairstylist's salon started charging 4% for using credit on July 3. I resent paying extra, especially on her tip. She already started charging for checks. I now will take cash to my appointment, more $$$ than I care to carry with me. As mean as it sounds, if I must use a credit card for future appointments, I will cut back on her 20% tip.
