I have observed that more and more places, not just restaurants are starting to charge an extra fee if you use a CC.
I use both cash and credit cards at restaurants. I always have cash on me. I started this during the pandemic, when I started to become worried about having access to my funds.
If I am going out to lunch with my co-workers I will use my cash, normally we are not spending that much. The other day we were at a Mexican restaurant. When our separate bills came three of us took out our cash. My one co-worker who always uses a CC asks, have they always charged 4% for CC transactions. One of my co-workers said why do you think we all took out cash. Somehow she has missed this, so I guess she has not been paying attention to her bill, because they have had this policy for several months.
This evening I am actually going out with one of my good girlfriends to a higher end restaurant. I will use a CC for my transaction, but when my bill comes I write cash on the tip line, and tip 20% to the server.

I have always had my T-mobile bill auto drafted from my Visa credit card. Yesterday, I received a notice that if I wanted to continue to receive the auto-draft discount on my monthly bill, I needed to change the method of payment to my checking account or a debit card. Interesting.

They really are nickel and dimeing us to death. A few weeks back we had a potluck at my job. One of my co-workers had a family emergency and would be unable to attend. She had ordered some food from a grocery store for her contribution. She asked me if I could pick it up for her and she would Zelle me the money.
While there and checking out, I decided since I was running low on cash to get some cash back. The grocer store charged me .50 cents for the transaction. I frequently get cash back at grocery stores and have never been charged to take out money before at the register, using my debit card.

The restaurants we eat in do not charge more for paying by credit card. However, the deli I often get my salads from does charge a 4% surcharge. Needless to say, we pay by cash there now.

@icezeus - I bet other retailers will start charging a fee for cash back transactions soon!

When I was "coming up thru the ranks," professionally, the fee from a Customer using a Credit Card used to be considered, Accounting wise, "Cost of Doing Business." and reporting "on the business's books," & also on Income Taxes.
Perhaps these actions is one of the many reasons why there's new gov't Act/s removing "Junk Fees," including, & esp on Air Travel, who seem to be "nickel & dime-ing" passenger fees, I understand..

I certainly hope that these Businesses are *not* passing on addt'l CC fees to Customers *and* also writing it off on Taxes, as "Cost of Doing Business" Not kewl! (But who would know?)

@JoyFilled Warrior I've said those exact words several times on different posts (this one included)...it's the cost of doing business. What's next?...an additional fee for the electric bill?...the water bill?

For the numerous Fans of "Les Miserables," (esp the Musical Play), during it's long, long run, there's a song there, whose (Nickel & Dime-ing) lyrics I'm reminded of now, called "Master of the House."
It's sung by this, (*smirk*) beloved, irreverent, extremely comical & unkempt, greedy, husband & wife Inn Keeper characters, (who have been raising Fantine's little orphan, Cosette), while also, "Nickel & Dime-ing" any of this InnKeeper's Customers there..
Well worth looking up this song "Master of the House," on Youtube. It's a hoot, at least for many who have seen the beloved "Les Miserables" Musical play!!

"Les Miserables" the Musical Play is often played on PBS. I highly, highly recommend it.
(Here's a pic of the irreverent, unkempt, audacious, greedy, InnKeeper Couple, singing the above song)
