Carolyn let go over other hosts?  They have to be kidding!

It almost appears QVC management wants to fail.

She turned 64 last September and I believe the oldest... a company looking for an excuse to let seniors go when the opportunity arises? Very common.

On that last birthday she said she hoped to stay around (QVC) for a long time.

Edit:

She said at the end of her Denim & Co Tuesday, yesterday, program with Gary telling us when she would be on next that week.  I know she said Sunday (March 5) with Denim & Co and I think another Garden program this week.  No way, did she expect to leave QVC.

@Foxxee    Did you read all the posts?  I think employees were offered retirement incentives and Carolyn chose to take it.

You're moxey enough to know they can't just lay off older hosts.  It would violate civil rights law and leave them susceptible to lawsuits, but they can offer those eligible, retirement along with a nice incentive.

Ever since Carolyn announced they'd bought a large motorhome, I'd wondered if she had retirement in mind.  Those toys are expensive so most people use them a lot, which requires retirement.

@Kachina624

Companies lay off older employees all the time using other reasons for letting them go.  They cost too much.  This is too fishy for me.  Both over 60 and most experienced.  No way are they going to do anything that would implicate them with illegal age discrimination.

Yes, QVC did say all those let go will receive a  severance package, eligible for Cobra and other benefits.  It is possible, Carolyn and Dan liked what was offered and took it, but it appears to me they were chosen. What would have happened if they said "no." Were other hosts asked if they wanted to leave and two chosen that wanted the severance or just Carolyn and Dan?

As far as did Carolyn have retirement in mind. She only had 2 years until full Social Security.  Why not wait to get full benefits.  On her birthday, she said she wanted to hang around a long time.  That was last September.  A lot can change in 5 1/2 months, though like being chosen to leave.

We will never know.  None of the hosts let go ever talk. We'd have to pry QVC's mouth open to find out.

@Foxxee    Yes, in a famous case, A number of years ago, K-Mart laid off a bunch of older executives.  They then spent the next 10 years in court and it cost them millions.  Some said it led to the demise of the company.  I don't think QVC wants to repeat this experience, and companies don't do it all the time.

It's a clear violation of age discrimination law.  They're more likely to put up with an incompetent older worker than risk an EEOC mess.

My son is an Employment attorney. It is almost impossible to prove age discrimination.🥺

I am not sure why everyone is shocked at how this was handled.  They did it to many other Hosts as well.  Same way.

Dan Hughes QVC posted 3 hours ago on his Facebook page QVC that he has been let go! He has his own Facebook page not related to QVC and posted on that one, that it stings. So Dan Hughes no longer works for QVC...

Re: Carolyn’s gone

[ Edited ]

I'm sorry to hear this news.  I liked her and she seemed very down to earth.  I thought she was a good host.  🐿

I remember that to and I think she also said somthing like "didn't they have you doing a show with another host this past week, which is kind of odd" then she laughted and Gary seemed kind of ackward about it.  I remember because I thought at the time that it was strange. To tell the truth I thought he was acting kind of strange through the  whole  show, there just didn't seem to be the same ease between them, not her so much but him.   I don't know but I just thought  it was wierd at the time.  I'm sorry to hear she'll be gone, I liked her very much wish her the very best, I will miss her the D & Co shows just won't be the same without her.  .  PS: I don't get this lying thing with some of you.  Why would you think that?  I myself have tons of clothing from QVC, way to much, and many things in multiple colors and sizes as I'm sure a lot of us do.  So please stop saying that.  If a lot of us do I'm sure with the employee discount she got she bought even more..

@Silver Fox1 I bet Gary knew this was coming, and that is why he acted a bit strange.

@Foxxee   Ask a company that's had a complaint filed against them if the EEOC is a joke.  Their process and influence is right up there with the IRS.  I worked for one.
