For whatever reason, I always assumed it was about Warren Beatty or maybe Mick Jagger.  

I never think much about David Geffen except in association with Cher.  I did not he had dated Simon at any time.  

I knew that Mick Jagger sang backup on this song.  His sense of humor is such that if he knew he inspired at least part of the song (and I bet he did), he doubtless enjoyed doing it.

They discussed Carly Simon and James Taylor on The Talk.  Their marriage broke up because of his drugs and both of them cheating.  She said he does not speak to her.  They have 2 children together.

I am glad to know who the song was about!

Carly Simon admitted the she had stage fright .... very dire stage fright.  I always assumed she was an introverted loner (which maybe she was) and that she came from an influential family (maybe she did).

I always thought she was gorgeous... and wondered how the couple could have broken up...
