And a clock! I worked in the office of a high school. Students would come in and ask what time it is. I pointed to the clock and they would ask me "what time is it?"! They could not tell time.
Also they say alot of kids now a days don't know how to use a manual can opener since more and more have the pop tops to open them.

Fun and lots of fits & giggles. 😁
Yup... and why do people think it's something to be proud of? Lol.
It's always good to have an extra skill. And at least, if I'm stranded somewhere or there's an emergency and the only available car is a stick shift, I know I can drive it. It's a practical skill.
Others just love the feel and control of a stick shift. If you've never driven one, you wouldn't know.

I love a happy ending.

I learned to drive on a manual. Over the years I had the pleasure of driving an MG, a Mustang, a Datsun sports car (soft clutch), and finally a turbo T-Bird, all manual transmissions. That T-Bird had the stiffest clutch of them all. I had to practically stand on it. That's when I decided to make a change to save my knee.
I've since opted for automatics, but miss the joy of being more hands on with the driving experience. When changing gears, I always seemed to feel more in control. Taking off down the highway gearing up, wind in my hair, could be exhilarating. Can't explain it, it just was.
When I attended motorcycle boot camp, with my now departed DH, I had no issues with changing gears. It came naturally. So all my years with manuals came in handy. You never know when you may benefit from a former skill. It's why I've tried to have as many life experiences as possible. Er, just in case I need them.

I've been driving a manual transmission for 50 years. It isn't "rocket science".
And, YES, it is an anti-theft device.

@Meowingkitty I remember as a five year old, in first grade, we
made clocks out of paper plates. The hands were clasped in the center and the teacher taught us how to tell time.
Fast forward to the 2000's. I worked in a middle school office
and kids would come in and ask what time it was. I showed them the clock on the wall. I don't understand not teaching students how to read a clock. Ever classroom and office had a clock.By whom and when was it decided that kids didn't need to know to
read a clock. Clocks are everywhere.
It is all part of the dumbing down of America.
My youngest daughter is an elementary school teacher; grades K - 3rd grade. Every year, she still teaches her students
how to count money and learn the value of coins and she has them make the paper plate clocks and learn to tell time, like she did.

I need to re-learn how to drive automatic transmission.
Just picked up my new Tahoe today. All pushbuttons.
Went to Lowe's, pushed the button for Park, but forgot to hit the button to turn off the car.
So it ran the entire time we were in Lowe's.
Why did they do away with keys?
Why did they do away with the shifter or whatever it's called?
Was it killing the whales? I don't know. (And I love whales.)

I haven't seen any stats, but I doubt many of the high $$$$ vehicles have 5 or 6 speed manual transmissions.
Even at places that have valets, have very few that can drive manual shift. My wife had to tell them that after 1 prior place, a valet got into our car/got out, said he couldn't drive a manual shift transmission vehicle.

@hckynutjohn That is VERY TRUE. I worked at a resort where a valet "bucked" an Italian sports car over a cliff. It landed flat and the valet was not injured. The car was TOTALLED and the owner sued. (I was there when this incident happened.)
