Re: Capital One news

[ Edited ]

Under the agreement, Discover shareholders would receive 1.0192 Capital One shares for each Discover share or about a 26% premium from Discover's Friday closing price of $110.49.

The companies said they expect the deal to close in late 2024 or early 2025, after which Capital One shareholders would hold 60% and Discover shareholders would own 40% of the combined company.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Capital One plans on keeping the Discover branding.  I bet that customers will see little change.

This is a brilliant move by Capital One (and all involved.)

As a credit card issuer, processor and a bank, they will rival American Express as an all purpose financial services powerhouse!

I am not a fan of Capital one and I can't remember since it's been many years ago but I do remember having a issue with that company.  I hope my Discover card won't have any changes because I have had no problems and I like the cash back benefits. @Kachina624 mentioned Synchrony bank, I haven't have any problems with this bank as well.

I got  first CC with Capital One, so I have been with them  forever.

IMO, they are a great company.  One thing I like about them is that they do not charge you a fee when you use their card in another country.  Most other cards charge a foreign transaction fee.  I needed this benefit when traveling to Asia and Europe.

They also offer perks on entertainment....like discounts on tickets and discounts on travel. If your card is lost or stolen when traveling you can get a cash advance and a card replacement.  Customer Service is available  24/7/365.

They offer free insurance on rental cars, and free travel insurance, insurance for lost luggage, additional warranty protections on items you buy with the card and there are probably a few other perks as well.

My card has never been hacked, I have never  paid interest or late fees and I can pay my bill online with no issues.

My best and most favored cc is with Capital One.

@Goodie2shoes  I've never had any issues with Synchrony Bank either but i know others who have many problems with them.

It seems if a problem develops with a credit card issued by Synchrony Bank it becomes a nightmare to try and get it straightened out.  SB is not easy to deal with and is very quick to make a negative report on the cardholder.

Two of our accounts are through Synchrony Bank and I definitely make sure to pay our balance in full every month.  I don't want to have to deal with them anymore than is necessary.

I have never had a problem with Capital One, especially how they treat their customers.  They are so far above Synchrony they can't even see them. I may use my Q card and ezpay until I satisfed with my purchase then pay off with my Capital One card.  No interest anywhere.

I don't have a Discover card, but I have a Capital One and have zero complaints.

We'll see if the government lets it go through, though.

That's why the transaction may not close for over a year.  I'm betting it's a go.

Shareholders of each company need to approve also.

Lots of time to fret and make alternative plans.

I had a Capital One card for years and never had any issues.  It was a GM Card and that program was taken over by another bank.  I just got a Discover card last summer and have been very pleased with the service so far.  I use the Discover card almost exclusively.

Years ago Capital One  bought Chevy Chase Bank  and that's when I  closed my account with them  along with a credit card because of poor customer service among other issues.

Had unfortunate  experience where my Discover card  had fraudulent charges on it and Discover card was great in notifying me  right away  along with correcting my account .

Hope that great customer service does not disappear with Capital One
