Would I be better off getting a tablet just for reading

if you get a separate device for reading, I would go with a Kindle. The reading on a kindle is better (to me).

Re: Can I read books on my iPad

My husband reads books on his mini-iPad and is happy enough with it. I prefer my Kindle.

I'm not very techie but to buy books to read I use my Amazon account. Usually I download books from my local library with an app called Overdrive. You need to check your library's website to figure out how to check out books. The library will most likely offers a workshop to help people figure out how to do this.

Re: Can I read books on my iPad

We download books from Amazon all the time to our iPads, iPhones and iTunes. When you got your iPad, if you set up a Cloud account, the books will be stored there and when you're ready to read, you then load it onto your iPad. It's very simple. I use the Kindle app to read the books and it's on my iPad already. I go directly to Amazon to buy and download them.

Don't spend the money to buy another tablet. It would be a waste of $$$.

We do all that as well. My DH set it all up but I'm pretty sure the iCloud makes it so it doesn't matter about free space on your iPad.

Re: Can I read books on my iPad

My books are in the cloud, too, but I really don't understand it, and manage my books through Amazon, even my library selections. I never thought I'd like an e-reader this much.
