If the politics aren't as hard right as they used to be, that's what was predicted. Maybe it's still in a state of change and hasn't stabilized one way or another yet.

There's been talk of splitting WA state along the lines of dry side and wet side. The wet side, Seattle, is considered more liberal than the dry side, Spokane.

I don't think it's an outrageous thing to consider. I'm from New England originally, where states are quite small in area, and some of them don't have sizeable populations. But splitting California into 6 states is taking it too far. Two, or three at most, would make more sense.
