What do you think of the idea of splitting California into 6 separate States? It looks like enough signatures have been collected to possibly put it on the 2016 Statewide Ballot.
I'm not sure if we (Orange County) would be in West California or South California.
Personally I would be against it. What do you think?

What would be the reason for doing so? What would it solve? I think the federal government would have to vote on this as it would make a huge difference in congress and the senate to have 5 more states.

I live in the San Gabriel Valley. It will never happen. Or even north and south California.

You're right about the Federal Government having to vote on it. I don't understand the point either but the idea seems to be gathering steam in some parts of Calif.
Apparently, if by some miracle it went through, Calif. would have the poorest and the richest states in the country.

Hi Mom
The idea of splitting CA comes up every decade or so, it used to be because of cultural differences.
First, know that people will sign almost any request to put something on the ballot, it doesn't mean they would ever vote for it. They had an expose on that the other night, here on local news. People didn't even understand what was being proposed, but agreed to get it on the ballot.
The guy behind it is a big techie, and he wants the Bay Area to be called the state of "Silicon Valley." Can you even imagine San Franciscans voting for that?
It's not gonna happen, I'd bet on it.

Totally against it. The whole idea serves a few. The guy behind it is a nut case. Easy to get signatures now with computers etc. It won't fly.

Hey Noel, your post explains it (the petitioning) perfectly. I have heard of it being proposed in the past. It sounds really ridiculous.
I also think tansy might be right about gerrymandering. So you would live in the state of Silicone Valley and I would live in West or South California!

I am against it. It's obvious GERRYMANDERING.

I am sure some of the areas where the wealthy live don't want to be tethered to those poor areas. poor little rich boys are afraid they may have to give something to a poor person, boo hoo.
