Re: CUSTOMER REVIEWS NEGATIVE "LIKE GRANDMA"OFFENSIVE

Next time I am out shopping I'll take note if other customers walk by me holding their noses.  LOL

Re: CUSTOMER REVIEWS NEGATIVE "LIKE GRANDMA"OFFENSIVE

I have never seen any item of clothing on one of their models that made them look like a "grandma."  HOWEVER, I have bought some clothing from QVC that kind of makes me look like a "grandma."  By that, I think people mean matronly, or slightly dumpy.  I think it depends on your body type and how you wear the clothes.

I think the term is used to describe an image.  While it might be offensive to Grandmas who are very fashionable, the "grandma" description is just another way to comment or label a piece of clothing.  I don't find it offensive, in fact, I think the comment is helpful.

It's just an expression.

@faeriemoon

Queer is just an expression also but we are not allowed to disparage gay people or lesbians in such manner.

What do you think the "q" in "lgbtqia" stands for?  Queer is NOT an offensive label.

I'm not sure what this says about My Grandma's Coffee Cakes.🤭

There really is a difference between something being "offensive" and you finding something "offensive".

Maybe we should come up with personal hygiene products called   "For Grandmas by Grandmas." Think of how easy it would be to market these products  since you know we grandmas have these unique problems. Wonder if granddads suffer with these issues.

My only explanation is how older women dressed many years ago that's being referred to today.  They did dress like grandmas then. Sorry, but there is a distinct grandma style.  It doesn't mean all older women dress like that today.

Look at some of the old movies.  Actresses from the age of 40 used as older mothers and grandmas were dressed in grandma dresses and low oxford shoes and carried small over the arm handbags. Don't forget the hat with netting. From her photos, my grandmother dressed that way at around 40 and I remember until she died in her 90's.  She didn't think it was unfashionable because other women at her church dressed the same way.

I just saw an old Spring Byington movie the other day.  She couldn't have been more than 40 wearing what I'd call grandma dresses.

How Aunt Bee dressed in Andy Griffith Show is a good example.

It was common to describe some as "just off the boat" because many immigrants from Europe dressed that way in the earlier part of the 1900's into the 1950's.

Lastly, why so concerned about what others say? Only you allow yourself to be insulted.  It says more about them than you.  Telling others to stop it isn't going to stop it.  In fact, just to annoy you, they might say it more often.

As far as odors, never smelled anything on older people who took regular baths.  It's possible some are unable to take a bath every day for a variety of medical reasons, but I don't run around sniffing them.
