I understood that the patient that has insurance would not be balance billed for their treatment. Patients without insurance will use medicaid and not be responsible either.

Our stimulus check of $1,200 does not help that much. I hope we receive another one at a higher amount. As far as not having to pay medical bills if you are in the hospital with COVID 19 maybe if you are on Medicaid you would not have to pay otherwise I believe you will be billed. You can always ask for help paying your hospital bills according to income, bills, rent, etc.

I don't know anyone who has been hospitalized for covid. I have some suspicians, but nothing definite.
I do know family members who have died in hospitals though for other things and there were definitely medical bills from the hospital that had to be paid.

If a person dies and has assets I don't think the taxpayers should be resonsible for paying the their hospital bills.

@DiAnne, I don't either but it happens all the time.
@DiAnne @Lipstickdiva --then I guess I should have just ignored the bill I got from Medicaid for my mom's care before she passed. Or, I could have let the state take possession of her home and sell it recoup the funds. Those were the choices given.
A little research about how Medicaid reimbursement works might be enlightening.

@Marp, I handle probate on a daily basis so I know how Medicaid works. I don't need to be enlightened. We deal with Medicaid on a regular basis and I know they will often negotiate on the payment of bills.
I was speaking more to bills people receive from balance billing, bills that aren't covered by personal insurance or bills due when someone has no insurance.
