COVID-19 and the Chance of Changing the TV Channel

[ Edited ]

A few minutes ago, I had the most wonderful surprise.  Unfortunately, the update on an acquaintance's successful life was brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, but I was able to see that a young lady whom I knew over a decade ago has become a successful physician.

For several summers in a row, this very driven and highly intelligent young woman worked as an intern in the federal government program office where I was employed.  When she was with us, she was enrolled in medical school at Georgetown Univerisity.  At that time, she said she hoped to be a pediatrician.

Well, I was watching our local news on the NBC affiliate (Channel 4) and decided to flip to the ABC affiliate (Channel 7).  So glad I did.  They announced that they had an exclusive, and their reporter was at the Virginia Hospital Center, a hospital in Northern Virginia.  They were showing individuals at the hospital getting their vaccination for coronavirus.  Well, a lovely and masked young doctor sat down and received her shot.

They gave her first and last name (spoken and shown on the screen) and it was the young girl who had worked in our office so many years ago.  Her last name is rare.  Instead of becoming a pediatrician, she became an infectious diseases specialist.  This is her moment.

Without question, she was smart as a whip.  I'll keep her in mind when I get nervous about getting the shot eventually.

That is a wonderful story.  She is a wonderful person for choosing Infectious Diseases.  Bless her.

As I wrote, she was so quick to learn anything.  She was very close to my best friend in the office (working under her often), and we'd socialize at times.

We'd tell her that she would finish in a day what others would work on for a week.  No lie.

@golding76 Some things aren't always a coincidence, was probably meant to be.

Good for her, what an accomplishment.

@golding76.  You ought to drop her a note telling her you saw the TV feature and congratulate her on her success.  It's good to know people such as this doctor are on our side in the war against the virus.

Kachina624,

That is a fabulous idea.  Thank you.

I thought I could google her local home address but pages of her medical info come up rather than personal.

I'll just send my note to the hospital, where she is on staff.

In searching for an address for her, I learned that Georgetown was where she had her residency and a fellowship.  It was not her medical school.

@golding76.  Send your note to the hospital and mark it "Personal".  The medicoes in the fight need all the pats on the back we can give them.

My gosh is she ever successful!  While searching for her address, I learned that she is married (has kept her maiden name professionally, though), has two children and volunteers quite a bit.  I mean heavy-duty and totally generous acts of humanity come from her.

Talk about high energy!

Did I mention that she is a nice and polite person, too?  She was and I am sure she still is by what I heard on the TV.
