@SandySparkles No "memories". My mother made "strange" things like tuna-ghetti.
And my mother-in-law made hot dogs and canned beans most of the time. di

My grandfather was in an accident in a tire factory during the Depression. 4 of 5 men died of poisoning from the fumes (benzene?), and he was the 1 that lived. His doctor said he had to have a lot of protein from then on. So, my grandmother made ground soups for him and later for regular dinners. He also had a lot of liverwurst that she often served at lunch.
The ground soups, homemade noodles, apple dump cake, fried eggs, mashed potatoes, pork & cabbage, sugar cookies were great comfort foods.

My Italian immigrant paternal grandmother would make us spaghetti cutting it up fine with a fork, very little sauce and lots of grated cheese on it. For dessert she would give us saltine crackers with honey on top.Still eat crackers like that to this day.
My maternal grandmother was not well enough to cook meals for us, but I remember having saltine crackers with butter spread on them at her house. She always had Junket (rennet custard) ready to make and we couldn't wait for it to set. I also associate all of our Polish/German traditional dishes with her because she brought my mother and aunt up in that tradition and they made those dishes when we visited her for holidays and special occasions.

Both of my grandma's could make the best meals with so little money and ingredients. I still don't know how they did it!
Homemade biscuits and gravy for breakfast was incredible! On the weekends she'd make chocolate syrup on the stove to go over the biscuits as well!😃❤️
A favorite dinner was fried catfish she'd make. My papaw would take me fishing and she'd fry whatever we brought back.😃❤️
@cheriere Welcome!🥰 I always say they made MAGIC in the kitchen with few pennies!😁 Biscuits and gravy are such a hearty breakfast!👍 My dear daughter-in-law served that once for breakfast, and it was quite satisfying!😊
My dear mother and uncles LOVED❤ fishing every chance they got, and catfish was enjoyed often during summer months.❤ You were SO fortunate to be able to fish with your Paw Paw. 😁Those memories are PRICELESS!💝
THANK you SO much for caring to share such sweet memories this afternoon!🤗

Every Sunday without fail my grandmother made homemade chicken soup. Every Saturday morning she would make her noodles and set them out to dry. The next day they were in her soup and she made the best soup.

Love this topic! @SandySparkles, thanks for starting this thread.
The 3 things I remember loving that my maternal Grandmother made was....1. delicious tapioca pudding (she used to make a huge pot of it). 2. Cream of Mushroom soup (wish I had her recipe but was to young to think to ask). 3. Fried fish with a side of spaghetti with marinara sauce (she would make this on Fridays when I was little and stayed with her during summer vacation). To this day, I love eating this and think of her when I do.
Paternal Grandmother...loved her home made meatballs and red gravy (sauce). Sunday pasta dinners at her house were wonderful. She was from Sicily and made delicous Italian food!!!

@LadybugDG wrote:Homemade Chicken and Dumplings ❤️ She made the dumplings from scratch, so delicious 😋Grandma was a good cook, but this was my favorite.
Also one of my top favorites from her was chocolate meringue pie, yummy.
