CHARLOTTE STERNBERG, AMERICAN PAINTER

Someone tweeted out one of her paintings, which I love.  I'd never seen her work before.

"The Last Chore".   1953.    Charlotte J. Sternberg

You can almost feel the crisp, polar air,  while someone watches from the house, and a pup ( or kitty?) gambols with his master....

Charlotte was from Connecticut, and became a painter and illustrator.   She was fascinated by New England scenes, but did all kinds of things, even a striking portrait of President Dwight Eisenhower.

Summer scene if you need to warm up,  "Massachusetts Tea Party"--

I enjoy the moods she conveys.

I am not familiar with Charlotte Sternberg and appreciate that you posted about her.  I love her artistic talent and the winter and summer scenes are wonderful. I would love to have them hanging on my wall!!!!!  They capture the seasons perfectly!!!!!!  I love the New England area and these lovely paintings have captured the environment of winter and summer!!!!!  Thanks for sharing.

They actually look like photographs!

Tea parties are always better with pups.  Love the one prancing in the snow.

@spiderw ,  that's how I reacted too-- the seasons, opposite as they are, are each perfectly rendered, drawing you in to the experience of each,  the crystalline stillness of a winter night, almost poetic; and the verdant liveliness of a summer afternoon, each leaf or tiny petal ready to dance on the breeze...

@Oznell  I really like "The Last Chore."  It is a,scene right out of a book I'm reading.  Now I can picture where the main character lives!  The book is The Ghosts of Beatrice Bird.

Thank you for your always interesting posts.

I wasn't familiar with her, either, but I love both of these!
