No problem... This situation has cropped up one too many times... I gave up on Romaine after the last time...

Meat eaters & milk drinkers are ruining everything.
Environmental travesty.
😩Leave our lettuce & beautiful produce alone!!!😩

I have noticed that finding my favorite butter lettuce has become difficult. I have no idea why either.

Seems 'hysteria' to not buy it if your reputable market sells it.
It's not hysterical to check the label, no matter where you buy it.
@suzyQ3 Agree. I'm not sure what it means by "reputable market", either.
The CDC is also saying to wash and sanitize all shelves where the lettuce was stored.
This isn't something to make light of; and it isn't being hysterical to watch out for one's own health. Considering the lettuce is part of the "plant based" mantra I would think folks would be extra cautious.
She's out there buying lettuce from the guy in the trench coat on the corner.

Giggle. 'Reputable'
We have any members on this forum in many different urban/rural areas.
I'll break it down...Mom&Pop stores or other local venues which
have a small profit margin. And for those buying from farmer's markets?
Depending where that market is...selling out of the back of their truck
IS sketchy. I would put more trust in a large, reputable market
than any farmer's market or mom&pop store.

@Trinity11 My favorite too and has been for a while. I wonder if the ongoing problems with Romaine has led others to butter lettuce, making it harder for us to find. It's never been as plentiful in the stores as other kinds of lettuce, but it does seem even more scarce lately.

@sidsmom- And I'd put more trust in my local farmers' markets than any big, national chain. The local farmer has more to lose, if his/her customers become sick from produce s/he sold.
Big doesn't equal "reputable", IMO. Who do you think is selling all this tainted produce?
ETA: And fine, you're a vegetarian or a vegan, but meat and dairy eaters are not the spawn of the devil. And they are not going away, no matter how much you might wish it. We have been around for centuries (longer?) and these problems didn't keep happening. It's only since the onset of big conglomerates that have driven smaller farmers out of business, all in the name of profit. (Monsanto springs to mind, along with Tyson and others.)

News Flash:
Dairy & meat production is on the decline....worldwide.
Just in the last year, the largest Dairy farm in the US is bankrupt,
and a 100+yr old California dairy farm has sold their cows to
grow almonds.
Going away? Probably not completely in my lifetime,
but it WILL decline considerably. The World is talking back
and changes are happening...if not for the health reasons, definitely
for the ethical AND environmental reasons....worldwide.
I don't have to 'wish it'..I just don't buy animal products.
Don't buy...they go away.
And the World is taking notice & doing the same.
Animal farming water runoff is ruining our food supply.
That's a fact.
There's no humanly need to eat animals.
