Re: CBS story on Wounded warrior Project

[ Edited ]

I never donated to this organization because I didn't care for one of the tv personalities who was pushing for donations.  Mentioned that on here and one poster came down on me pretty hard.  I work hard for my money so it's my decision.

In the past I've been on St. Judes monthly cc donation list - need to get back on that one.  Currently I give to 2 dog/cat rescues and 1 horse rescue group.

Horses are so expensive to care for and so many of them wind up being shipped to slaughter houses in Canada and Mexico.  So that group gets the most $.  They provide a forever home for the horses they take in but they can't take enough for those that are needing homes.

Re: CBS story on Wounded warrior Project

This kind of stuff makes me furious.  My husband, a Vietnam vet, started a non profit several years ago for Vietnam vets in particular but vets in general.

100% of donations go to the work they are doing.  He and the board members don't take a dime and they have so many great volunteers working on the project.  When I see what they are doing and then see stories like WW who get so much publicity, it makes me sick.

Re: CBS story on Wounded warrior Project

A suggestion for some of you who may wish to donate directly to a Command with a Wounded Warrior population.

Major Medical Center commands have C-5 units for Wounded Warriors.  These C-5s are centers which provide excellent clinical treatment embracing all that the wounded warriors need to recover.  What is most appreciated are funds which can help Wounded Warrior and spouses to return home for a visit during Christmas or simply at a time in their recovery that is deemed clinically appropriate.

Contact the closest military Medical Center Command and ask for the Director of the C-5 Unit.

Re: CBS story on Wounded warrior Project

My husband and I were at the military base yesterday.  While he was waiting in the pharmacy for his meds to be filled he was talking to a young vet who was there to pick up his 14 Rx.  He was telling my husband he could not get any help from the VA and all anyone would do is just prescribe more meds.  He said the only one who helped him was Wounded Warriers.  Then we come home and see the story about them on TV.  What a mess everything is.  The only charity I feel good about is the St. Judes Childrens Hospital.

I guess the NY City mogul missed this report since he's throwing a large fundraiser for them on Thursday night!

Re: CBS story on Wounded warrior Project

I had heard about this organization quite some time go and, as a result, did not contribute. There's another issue that concerns me. When I see their heartbreaking ads, watching families with lifelong challenges and serious disabilities of loved ones,

I start to wonder. Where is our government, those people who voted to send young people overseas to fight these wars? Why does there have to be a charity to do what should be the right thing to do in the first place? Somehow those old men in Washington can find the money to fight these wars but when America's young men and women come back grievously harmed, there isn't enough money to truly help them and provide what they need. It's shameful.

Re: CBS story on Wounded warrior Project

This story bothered me a lot. After a night of ruminating about it, I have these thoughts.

I hope that WW addresses this story, I want to hear if they acknowledge the wasteful spending on the parties. I think no charity should pay for alcohol at any event, that should be paid for by individual donors. Same with rooms in the high rent district.

With a rating of 84, it seems that there is still much that WW IS doing right. Better than Red Cross or Am Can according to the Charity Navigator. Maybe this bright light exposing their operating inefficiencies will be a good thing and bring their focus back to where it should be, on the Warriors, not the parties that the heroes can't even enjoy.
