@Noel7 wrote:A Bakersfield neighbor called police to report a man was walking around brandishing a gun at women. Police responded, told the man to stop walking and shot him dead as he walked toward them.
The man was 73 year old Francisco Serna, a retiree with Alzheimer's.
He had no gun at all, he was carrying a crucifix in his hand.
What have we become?
@Noel There have been so many threats and tragedies, so many police shot and killed, they are paranoid. These situations are very sad but understandable too. What's the solution? I don't know.

I agree with you @Kachina624 I think a lot of people have become very suspicious, some of it valid. There are so many urban myths now it's hard to keep up with debunking them.

Hi @Nancy Drew
We do know his hand was in his pocket, wrapped around his crucifix at one point, and we know the police searched the area and the grandfather and did not find a gun or weapon.

Heartbreaking.
@Noel7 There's just no excuse for that. They don't have to shoot to kill in situations like this. What's wrong with using their taser or at least shoot in a place that won't kill them but stop them so they can arrest them.
Police need new training if they think it's ok to shoot a 73 yr old man they thought had a gun.
@Nightowlz You'll never see police shoot to wound. They are trained to shoot to kill because those soooting at them shoot to kill. Tazers are woefully undependable.

We had a guy walking down the street that runs out from our neighborhood with a rifle a few weeks ago. The police were called & he was picked up before anything happened. He had a backpack with several rounds of ammo, 3 knives & I cannot remember what else. He told police he felt it was his right to walk down the street with his rifle? They had no idea what he had in mind to do. He said he was just going for a walk. I'm sure he was up to something or why all the ammo in the backpack? Why even carry a rifle on a walk? He was not far from a school when he was picked up.
Now that is truly.

Nightowlz...I'll get it right, we just had some company and one person was a non stop talker and my head is spinning. What you posted was truly scary.

I thought the police always used night vision goggles plus have night vision scopes, one would think they would correctly outline whatever was in a suspect's hand.

Given that even those with early dementia need supervision, perhaps they need to be registered for their own protection. This is an area of particular concern as life spans increase.

The teenager that was shot by the officer at the shool last week,he was using knives to threaten students, i just would had thought there would had been a better way to stop him, other than shooting him in the chest.
