@goldensrbest  All the advice is great especially looking at a seller's feedback.  There is also a Top Rated Seller Rating that requires sellers to maintain a high standard consistent behavior including shipping time which typically needs to be within 24 business hours of payment made, also any cases made against a seller from a buyer need to have complete and a satisfactory resolution.

I know the requirements well as I've sold on Ebay for nearly 24 years and Ebay throughout has raised seller's standards consistently resulting in weeding out a majority of the bad sellers. Smiley Happy

I used to do more Ebay shopping and then I got into a problem a few times and decided it was not for me. As a seller I had one too many buyers TRY TO TAKE ME. As a buyer I had someone bid against me that I proved was in league with the seller.... obvious.

Ebay has a policy to report the sellers, complain, whatever.  HOWEVER THEY ONCE HAD A POLICY WHERE THE SELLER COULD REPORT THE BUYER.  NO MORE and that turned me away.

Here is my advice, it did work for me  for awhile.  Contact the seller BEFORE YOU BID.  Ask questions, try to engage them in conversation and then with THAT you  have a bit more information about the way you are treated and valued.

Another bit of advice that did work for me..... Buy products from sellers that specialize in one type of item... in my case sellers who only sold square dance items.  I made over 10 friends who I actually met and was able to create a long term friendship.  We had something in common.

I wouldnt worry.  I do however look at feedback.  I wont buy if it is less than 99% positive.  I resd the negative reviews if they have any.   Feedback is important.  I just bought Speet comb fo husband on ebay.  Amazon wouldnt send them to California

I just bought a pair of Laurie Felt jeans that was sold out in my size.  Hope I like these.  I went to the laurie felt website and disappointed to see that she doesn't sell from there only advertises.  Well, there she is and some other women dancing and you could see very clearly camel toes in a couple of these women, Laurie being one.   Sorry now that I bought these although the style is not the same as what they are wearing and dancing in (and looking ridiculous).

I have had issues with Amazon, but I have always been happy with my Ebay purchases!-----

Everyone here said it all--

1.I normally set my preference on "buy it now" and dont go the auction route....unless its something hard to find or really unique....

2. Check feedback

3. Check seller's location

4. Read the seller's description of the item and photos, ask the seller questions if needed....

5. I always use Paypal to pay.....

@PinkyPetunia That's excellent advice.  I always filter the sellers.

I started back in 2005 and have had only one problem.  Since it was resolved so quickly and easily with a full return I have bought several things from new sellers.  One seller had no feed back so I took a chance.  Perfect and speedy delivery.  It is fun and eBay is where I go before I go to the mall, decades before Corona.

I've been using that site for about 20 years and have had only 3 problems.   Twice I sorted it out with the Seller, and once Ebay stepped in and just refunded my money.

Next time you go on the site, look up their Buyer Protection Plan.   They want to be sure Buyers are happy.
