Re: Buying Sites Like Etsy And Zully

IMO Zulily has changed a lot since they were bought out by the company that also owns QVC.

The bargains don't seem to be there like they used to be and the prices aren't worth most things because of the no return policy.

Etsy and Zulilly have nothing on common. Etsy is a place where you can create your own store and sell thrift finds or handmade stuff. I've bought a lot of things on there from different stores.

Re: Buying Sites Like Etsy And Zully

The two sites, Etsy and Zulily are nothing alike.  Etsy specializes in handmade goods sold by the crafters, more like eBay.  I just ordered a couple of hand-made scarves to go with this season's colors.  You can find some unique items.  There is almost too much from which to select.

Zulily on the other hand, is sales of merchandise overages by manufacturers and distributors.  It's brand-new, never worn or tried on and is not excess from QVC.  I love going there every morning to see what's new each day.

I've been shopping Zulily almost 3 years and have gotten some fantastic things, but what I love best are the shoes.  OMG, I may soon have to buy warehouse space for storing them all.  All of mine are low-heeled "comfort" types of shoes from brand names and they all are packed with the original factor-inserted stuffing with pristine, uncreased tissue.

There are pros and cons to shopping at Zulily but I've had a ton of fun with it.

I've only recently gotten into these sites since I've had the time.  A couple of times when I click on a product on google images, I get led to these sites.

Which do you like the best and why?

They are completely different sites.

Etsy is primarily for hand-crafted items and Zulily is a discount retail site. If you buy from Etsy, you are buying from an individual seller who created or curated the items you buy. (It's supposed to be for handcrafted items, but some people also sell vintage items they've found to resell or things like craft supplies.) If you buy from Zulily, you are buying from Zulily, a company.

I buy art, indie nail polish, jewelry, and other hand-crafted items from Etsy.

Zulily has a no returns (unless item is defective) policy and shipping is longer because the supplier has to send your items to Zulily who then sends them to you. (Hautelook and other sites work this way, too.) Because there are no returns, I usually buy home goods or makeup I already know and love. I don't buy shoes from Zulily and only buy an item of clothing if it's a deep discount and I'm pretty sure it will fit.

I buy so much from Etsy that pretty soon they will have to add me to their board of directors!

@Kachina624. I agree with you that Etsy has too many shops to be able to visit all that I'd like. I try to limit my shopping to American shops, only. I once bought from EBay overseas and my account got hacked! I know it can happen anywhere, but I'm more comfortable this way. I ordered a large amount of children's clothing from Zulily last year. It took so long to receive the items that my granddaughter had literally grown out of a few! That's why I don't use it any more. I find good deals on Amazon or by shopping regular sales at other stores.

You can find many of the houseware items that are on Zulily in Home Goods for less money and no shipping.

I love Etsy!  I've gotten some beautiful things- stained glass boxes, watercolor prints, baby blankets, rag rugs,  a beautiful Sterling silver bangle bracelet that I like so much that I've ordered a few more for gifts, handwritten recipe cutting boards (my best received Christmas gift

that I gave last year, everyone loved them), lots of things!  I've never been disappointed with anything I've bought from Etsy.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I don't shop Etsy.  Never heard of it.  I used to dislike zulily, but gave them a second chance when they started carrying brands at the q.  Q brands are usually at a good price.  Can't say that about everything else.  You need to know your prices or you will over pay.  I'm happy with the majority of what I bought.

@Imadickens  A couple years ago, I ordered a jewelry set not realizing the seller was in Eastern Europe.  Along comes my jewelry and a note written in the most exquisite script I've ever seen.  I didn't know people could still do that.  It made for a memorable experience.
