The bad guys WIN if they get everyone so scared that we stop living life.
I don't understand the need for NYC to be criticizing LA's decision on this. What I do find annoying and totally unnecessary is the nonstop coverage that this is receiving:/
The more publicity and the more alarm...the more likely another German troll will try this again!
The question is that If NYC handled it one way and discovered that it was a hoax pretty quickly- why can't LA do the same?
The West coast school day had not yet begun, and a major factor in the decision was likely the proximity to San Bernardino. The NYC school day was already well in progress.

It was not the exact same message. NY is three hours ahead of us in so cal. I support the school district in
their decision in light of the tragic shootings in San Bernardino just a few weeks ago. Rather be cautious than regretful .

I would rather the officials close the schools for one day, and keep all of the students safe, then to blow it off, and just assume that it is a hoax, and be wrong.
If it was YOUR child, and YOUR child's school district, wouldn't you want them to to take the threat seriously, and make sure that the school was safe?
Or, would you want them to just assume that it was a hoax, and be wrong?
I would think that any parent that truly loved and cared for their child, would want the officials to er on the side of caution.
I believe better safe than sorry.
But that's just me.

Yes IammrsG exactly. There is three hours difference. Common sense .

Common sense isn't common any more.

No one "assumed" that it was a hoax - the NYC police investigated and determined it WAS a hoax.
Of course they needed to take the threat seriously, but they also needed to investigate more thoroughly.

Everyone needs to be aware...but I admire NYC for moving forward...reminds me of Israel, another popular target where people never give in to fear.
With 3/4 of million kid's lives at stake, you would rather not do anything just to prove that we don't live in fear? Unbelievable!

While the emails may have been similar, the areas are not. One could be a hoax and the other one not.
In addition to the time difference, please note that San Bernadino is in the general vacinity. Yesterday was also the anniversary of Sandy Hook.
I applaud the Superintendent for his actions. He is experienced and he went with child safety.
He shouldn't be receiving criticism on a decision that he made when there isn't a handbook written on the subject yet.

Better safe than sorry. Can you imagine if they did nothing and something happened?

I can understand the case for over-reaction..........now they know exaxtly what to do the next time, and there will be one I have no doubt.
