They're trying to figure out how to clean up the CFL they just broke without spreading mercury all over the house.

We can only blame ourselves...........where were all of us for the past few years.........I'll bet most people didn't even bother to email the Pres. and their local reps. regarding this matter. Too busy, distracted, etc.

The law does not specifically outlaw incandescent bulbs...it simply makes it impossible for current bulbs to meet the requirements. There is an entrepreneur out there who has made an energy efficient ""rough use"" incandescent light bulb. There probably will be more. Check it out...do a search ""loophole in new lightbulb law"".

not that I agree with the light bulb phase out but this has been across a few administrations and not any one.

Yes, where were we throughout all of the admins.? Many of us could have voiced our opinions. I have always been in favor of having an option. I'm thinking that using the new fluor. in places where the lights remain on for long periods of time is beneficial. Also, the large company buildings keep their lights on 'way too long' (all night long) and maybe they can 'cut down' on their usage. Maybe keep the top floors lights on, and alternate lighting floors, etc. p.s. 'Used to be' that if you turn on and off the new fluor. bulbs, it is counter productive. They are meant to stay on for long periods of time in order to be energy saving. Maybe that has changed, though, with technology and all..........

We need some TV public service announcements, along with school announcements, showing us how important it is to safely dispose and (not) handle broken fluor. bulbs. Just sayin'.........

I wonder if you mailed a broken bulb to the EPA if that would be considered a terrorist act.

I simply cannot stand those "bulbs" either. Aside from being extremely toxic, ever tried to do needlework in a room lit by these bulbs? It's crazy impossible. I'd do better working on projects lit by fireflies. When we moved recently to another state, I insisted that we purchase "real" light bulbs so I could see what I was doing. I am now a happy person.

BTW: Check out a company called "Top Bulb." They have every conceivable bulb you might need.
