Re: Broke a CFL lightbulb.....

Too bad we didn't 'encourage' many posters here several years ago, to email the necessary reps, Pres, etc., etc. Votes do count, and perhaps there could have been options re: bulbs this very day. Oh, well.........leave it up to our grandkids to 'straighten things out'. But, you can imagine what they will be saying about what we have done, safety and health wise.

I have no problem with these bulbs and I've never understood the fuss about them.

I haven't been up on this story of the changeover because I have a small incandescent hoard, but WHERE ARE THE ENVIRONMENTALISTS? SERIOUSLY.

Some have started saying that maybe it wasn't the greatest idea they ever had.

I have a few in the house for the areas I don't frequent, but I'm super careful when I change them, and they do go into the landfill. No one around here recyles short of Home Depot, and I'm not wasting the gas to go there to dump off a bulb or two.

Have you read the package?

Not only are they known for off-color light, and not reaching their maximum light for quite awhile (not rec'd for areas like hallways where you need bright light immediately), they're toxic. Just Google what you need to do if you should happen to break one of these babies.

After trying different ones we don't have a problem with them either and they saved on our electricity and last a long, long time no matter what some people say. BUT they are a big worry as far as disposal. Online you can find lists of places that recycle for you like Ace Hardware, True Value, Lowes, that kind of thing, but is everybody going to be careful about it? No.

I like them too.

I put the daylight variety in my bathroom light fixtures. The light is a beautiful, clear, non-golden color. Perfect for makeup. I put them in about 8 years ago and I am just now having one burn out. they come on immediately at full brightness.

I also have them for my outside lights. I leave them on all night and they're still going strong at 8 years.

Re: Broke a CFL lightbulb.....

I have tons of the old bulbs still left to use. I stocked up on them so I wouldn't have to use the new bulbs. For what I have here, I have a few years worth of old bulbs still left to use. Thank goodness.

We like them as well--- sure you might get one now and then that doesn't last as long just like with incandescents but 99.999 % of ours have lasted for years. CAn't argue the safe disposal's a big concern though--- not an easy answer to that. We've not broken one.....yet.
