Perhaps, but pretty soon your hoarding might become profitable. I'm willing to bet there will be lots of people soon looking for incandescent bulbs and you could make some money selling them on ebay.

They can be taken to a Home Depot in my area for disposal. Maybe your area also.

Feeling sorry for our great grandchildren.......they will have to fight hard to return to the safer incandescent bulbs. Can you imagine the world filled with broken fluorescents in the land, the water, the birds, fish, etc. Just too much to think about right now. p.s. I'm guessing they are transporting the m*rcury back and forth on ships to C. for recycling.

Make sure you wear gloves and put pieces in an airtight plastic Ziploc bag so you don't contaminate your car on the way to Home Depot. Keep away from your children and pets, too. Always wise to be safe.

Guess I'm doomed. Shouldn't there be huge blinking warnings on the package if they are THAT much of a hazzard?
Seriously? That's the very thing you're NOT supposed to do as it puts the mercury into the air.

Mine says that too, but I've heard from numerous recyclers that much of what we think is recycled is actually tossed in the landfill for one reason or another. At the very least, it has to be worth the cost to transport, and the higher gas goes, the less likely they are to do so.

Our Home Depot doesn't take them.
Our WholeFoods Market takes old batteries though.

i bought a 48 pack each of 60w and 75w bulbs from Amazon. i don't want those dangerous squiggly ones here in earthquake country - not to mention they don't give off enough light.
