Bridal Shower gift ideas please!

My son is getting married on New Years Day! I live in New York, my son and his fiance live in Cali, and the wedding is in Kansas, which is her home state! The wedding shower is going to be in Kasnsa the day before the wedding due to so many out of towners. I am trying to think of a gift that is small, as I have to fly with it and then the bride will also have to fly with it. She is very girly, cooks a little, she is crafty (scrapbooking etc.) and busy with her career, she also love board games!!! What was your favorite wedding shower gift? Is there any gift that the mother of the groom is expected to give at the bridal shower? Do you remember what your mother in law gave you at your shower? Thanks for any suggestions!
